Polynomial stability without polynomial decay of the relaxation function

Mathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences, 2008
AbstractWe consider a linear viscoelastic problem and prove polynomial asymptotic stability of the steady state. This work improves previous works where it is proved that polynomial decay of solutions to the equilibrium state occurs provided that the relaxation function itself is polynomially decaying to zero. In this paper we will not assume any decay

Uniform rates of decay in nonlinear viscoelasticity for polynomial decaying kernels

Applicable Analysis, 1996
We prove a global existence theorem for the nonlinear viscoelastic equation for small data in and that the solution decays algebraically to zero when the kernel decays also algebraically as t goes to infinity. That is, if the kernel g satisfies with p > 2, then the firts and second order energy decay as .

Subdivision schemes with polynomially decaying masks

Advances in Computational Mathematics, 2009
The \(L_2\)-solutions of vector refinement equations with polynomially decaying masks and a general dilation matrix, which plays a vital role for characterizations of wavelets and biorthogonal wavelets with infinite support are studied here [cf. \textit{B. Han} and \textit{R.-Q. Jia}, Appl. Comput. Harmon. Anal.

Billiards with polynomial decay of correlations

Ergodic Theory and Dynamical Systems, 2004
The author proves that the billiard map in a Bunimovich stadium has polynomial decay of correlations of the order of \(n^{-1}\). Ergodic Bunimovich-type billiards (two arcs not bigger than half a circle) that do not have trajectories with infinitely many consecutive bounces on straight lines satisfy the same property.
