The two buccal suckers have a largely muscular septum each and, near the pharynx, dorsal swellings ("valve apparatus") extend into the lumen of the suckers. In the posterior parts of the suckers, the tegument forms a "rim" containing much electron-dense material.

The tegument of Gotocotyla bivaginalis consists of a syncytium, perikarya and four kinds of secretory bodies, viz. electron-dense granules, moderately electron-dense vesicles, electron-lucent vesicles and large multivesicular bodies occurring in the ratio of 83:50:40:1.

Revision of the monogenean subfamily Priceinae Chauhan, 1953 (Polyopisthocotylea: Thoracocotylidae)
Systematic Parasitology, 1999Members of the subfamily Priceinae are gastrocotylinean monogeneans of the gills of scombrid fishes of the genus Scomberomorus (and perhaps the genera Acanthocybium, Rastrelliger and Katsuwonus) from warm to warm-temperate seas of the world. We revise the diagnosis of the subfamily and regard the Mexicotylinae Lebedev, 1984 as a synonym.

Members of the subfamily Neothoracocotylinae are gastrocotylinean monogeneans on the gills of scombrid fishes of the genera Scomberomorus and Acanthocybium, and reportedly of a coryphaenid fish belonging to the genus Coryphaena. We revise the diagnosis of the subfamily and its two genera and accept only two species as valid.

Ultrastructure of the gut caecal epithelium of Pricea multae (Monogenea: Polyopisthocotylea)
Parasitology Research, 1996Ultrastructural observations of the gut caecal epithelium of Pricea multae revealed the presence of pigmented and non-pigmented digestive cells. The pigmented digestive cells were separated by a connecting syncytium and appeared elongated, with numerous vesicles appearing toward the apical cell surface. They were characterised by granular inclusions in

The ultrastructure of the haptoral clamps of the chimaericolid monogenean Chimaericola leptogaster, a basal polyopisthocotylean from the gills of a holocephalan fish, is described. These clamps are characterized by the presence of two muscle blocks interrupted mid-anteriorly and mid-posteriorly and different kinds of hard structures: a single median ...

The genus Diplozoon (Monogenea, Polyopisthocotylea) in southern france: Speculation and specificity
International Journal for Parasitology, 1988Abstract Different populations of the genus Diplozoon have been investigated in southern France by genetical analysis and experimental infestations. They represent a complex of four species: D. nipponicum which parasitizes Cyprinus carpio can be clearly distinguished from the others by significant morphoanatomical particularities, large ...

The anterior and posterior attachment organs of three species of monogeneans, Diclybothrium armatum Leuckart, 1835, Neodiscocotyle carpioditis Dechtiar, 1967, and Mazocraeoides olentangiensis Sroufe, 1958, were examined in whole-mount light-microscope preparations, and by scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

The Levant Basin is in many ways the world's most invaded marine ecosystem owing to the existence of the man-made Suez Canal. The invasion of free-living organisms through this pathway is increasingly documented and monitored in the past two decades, and their ecological impact recognized.

[Hypothesis of the biogeographical origin of Diplozoon (Monogenea, Polyopisthocotylea)].
Annales de parasitologie humaine et comparee, 1988The evolutionary geographic origin of Diplozoon and Octomacrum (Monogenea, Polyopisthocotylea) is discussed. Diplozoon occurs in Eurasia and Africa, whereas the distribution of Octomacrum is limited to North-America. These two monogeneans likely had a common progenitor originating from the Pacific.
