Increased Performance of Thermoplastic Packaging Materials by Using a Mild Oxidizing Biobased Additive

open access: yesInternational Journal of Polymer Science, 2012
Green additives such as prodegradants based on natural fatty acids and iron can improve the environmental profile of thermoplastic packaging materials. We present two studies in which this is demonstrated.

Polylactic acid film versus acellular porcine small intestinal submucosa mesh in peritoneal adhesion formation in rats Filme ácido poli-lático versus tela de submucosa intestinal suína na formação de aderências peritoneais em ratos

open access: yesActa Cirúrgica Brasileira, 2009
PURPOSE: To assess intraperitoneal adhesion formation in rats after the single implantation of intraperitoneal polypropylene mesh versus SIS mesh, and the effect of PAF as a polypropylene mesh barrier.

Streptavidins Coordinate Biotin Sequestration and Self‐Resistance Within a Biotin‐Pathway Antibiotic Network

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A conserved genomic region between two streptavidin genes in Streptomyces packages biosynthetic gene clusters for diverse biotin‐pathway antibiotics: acidomycin, stravidin, the new non‐proteinogenic amino acid ANDA, and the new BioA inhibitor α‐methyl‐KAPA.

Structure evolution in α- and β-polypropylenes under UV irradiation

open access: yes, 2015
Commercially available isotactic polypropylene (PP) was modified by a specific β-nucleating agent based on N,N'-dicyclohexylnaphthalene-2,6- dicarboxamide.

Single‐Particle Mid‐Infrared Photothermal Imaging Reveals Hidden Heterogeneity in Real‐World Micro‐ and Nanoplastics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mid‐infrared photothermal imaging enables multidimensional profiling of micro‐ and nanoplastics in bottled water. A total of 9.9 × 104 particles L−1 is detected, with 64% in the nanoscale regime. Spectral evolution, including peak narrowing and band shifts, reveals local chain reorganization in polyethylene terephthalate (PET), highlighting intrinsic ...

Rheological Properties of Tailor-Made Metallocene and Ziegler-Natta Based Controlled Rheology Polypropylenes

open access: yes, 2015
Controlled rheology polypropylenes (CRPP) have been produced industrially by peroxide induced degradation in post-polymerization reactive extrusion (REX) operations.

Properties and Film Applications of Metallocene-Based Isotactic Polypropylenes

open access: yes, 1999
When using a stepwise isothermal segregation technique (SIST) by DSC, multiple melting endotherms are observed for metallocene-based isotactic polypropylenes (miPPs), whereas only a single melting peak is obtained for standard iPPs made by the Ziegler ...

Adhesion‐Driven Removal of Microplastics From Aquatic Systems by Using Microgel Glues

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Soft polymeric microgels function as “glues” that aggregate diverse microplastics through multivalent adhesion, promoting their interfacial deposition and co‐precipitation for efficient removal from water. Remarkably, this approach remains effective even for nanoscale plastic particles as small as 50 nm.
