Cool Kitchen: Processing Starch and Eggshell Powder into Sustainable Coatings for Passive Daytime Cooling

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A food‐grade cooling composite made from starch and recycled eggshell powder offers a scalable, ultra‐low‐cost solution for passive daytime radiative cooling. Easily prepared using basic kitchen tools, this material empowers communities, even in areas with limited infrastructure, to stay cooler during worsening summer heat waves.

Functional Materials for Environmental Energy Harvesting in Smart Agriculture via Triboelectric Nanogenerators

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review explores functional and responsive materials for triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) in sustainable smart agriculture. It examines how particulate contamination and dirt affect charge transfer and efficiency. Environmental challenges and strategies to enhance durability and responsiveness are outlined, including active functional layers ...

RNA-seq reveals role of cell-cycle regulating genes in the pathogenicity of a field very virulent infectious bursal disease virus

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science
Infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV) infection causes highly contagious and immunosuppressive disease in poultry. The thymus, serving as the primary organ for T cell maturation and differentiation, plays an important role in the pathogenicity of IBDV ...

Liquid Metals as Initiators of Free‐Radical Polymerization of Hydrogels: A Perspective

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Gallium‐based liquid metals initiate free radical polymerization to form hydrogels without the use of toxic molecular initiators. In addition to initiating polymerization, they can act as crosslinkers, yielding softer, more extensible, and tougher hydrogels than those formed with conventional initiators.

Preparation and Application of Modified Vermiculite Adsorption Materials

open access: yesKuangchan zonghe liyong
β-Cd polymer (KACD) was prepared by modifying β-Cd with KH560 at alkaline conditions, and then the polymer was loaded onto vermiculite to prepare β-Cd modified vermiculite composite (KACDS).

Polysaccharide Nanostructures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Polysaccharides are carbohydrate polymers where sugar units are linked together through glycosidic linkages. In living organisms polysaccharides are the structural polymers that provide support (e.g., cellulose in plants or chitin in arthropods) or ...

Bacteriophage-encoded virion-associated enzymes to overcome the carbohydrate barriers during the infection process [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Bacteriophages are bacterial viruses that infect the host after successful receptor recognition and adsorption to the cell surface. The irreversible adherence followed by genome material ejection into host cell cytoplasm must be preceded by the passage ...

LipoGels: Robust Self‐Lubricating Physically Cross‐Linked Alginate Hydrogels Embedded with Liposomes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Physically cross‐linked alginate hydrogels embedded with 1,2‐dipalmitoyl‐sn‐glycero‐3‐phosphocholine liposomes (LipoGels) are prepared under optimized conditions to avoid shrinkage and achieve structural uniformity. LipoGels demonstrate robust mechanical strength (Young's modulus ≈1 MPa), excellent lubrication (friction coefficient ≈0.021), and ...

Evaluation of Hypovirus Infection on the Vesicular Protein Expression Pattern of Cryphonectria parasitica by TMT-Based Proteomics Analysis

open access: yesBiology
Hypovirus infection is known to reduce the pathogenicity of Cryphonectria parasitica, the causative agent of chestnut blight. Isoforms derived from a viral protein p48 have been discovered in host mitochondria and vesicles, which may contribute to ...
