On competition polysemy and \(m\)-competition polysemy.
2010Summary: \textit{M. Fischermann} et al. [Discrete Math. 282, No. 1--3, 251--255 (2004; Zbl 1042.05068)] generalized bound polysemy to competition polysemy by using digraphs instead of posets. They provided a characterization of competition polysemic pairs and a characterization of the connected graphs \(G\) for which there exists a tree \(T\) such that

Abstract This volume of newly commissioned essays examines current theoretical and computational work on polysemy, the term used in semantic analysis to describe words with more than one meaning or function, sometimes perhaps related (as in plain) and sometimes perhaps not (as in bank).

Polysemy is an interesting phenomenon that concerns cases in which a word or phrase enjoys multiple, related meanings. This article distinguishes polysemy from similar phenomena and presents some tests for determining the presence of polysemy. In addition, polysemy is differentiated from other phenomena that involve potential multiplicity of meaning ...

AbstractIt is probably true that cases which are restricted to one specific meaning are rarer than cases subsuming several meanings. The origins of these polysemies or syncretisms vary: some are conditioned by phonetic factors, especially pervasive in the situation when a case system collapses, others have a transparent semantic basis.

Polysemy, Copredication, and Polysemy-centric Approaches
Abstract This chapter discusses Polysemy-centric approaches to copredication, as well as discussing the relationship between polysemy and copredication more generally. Many classic examples of copredication contain subject terms that are plausibly polysemous.David Liebesman, Ofra Magidor

Abstract This paper addresses the cognitive models that frame our understanding of what is traditionally called “metaphoric polysemy”, a well-established principle at work when it comes to naming the animals around us. In particular, taking the Roman nomenclature of aquatic animals as a case study, polysemy is redefined according to some basic ...

AbstractThis chapter addresses the phenomenon of polysemy in the light of LCCM Theory. In LCCM Theory, polysemy relates not to the variation evident in the situated semantic contribution of a word. Rather, it is a consequence of a single phonological vehicle being associated with distinct lexical concepts which are semantically related.

Theka-construction in Taiwan Southern Min is well-known for its polysemy. This study argues that with evidence from extra-argumentality,ka-NP position, thematic relationship, passivization, over-generalization, and dialectal difference, kashould at least be categorized into three different types, i.e., light verb, applicative, and preposition, instead ...

Abstract The concepts of synonymy and polysemy are the stock in trade of the linguist and particularly the semanticist. Yet certain complications concerning these concepts seem to have been overlooked. The aim of this paper is to draw attention to these complications and to suggest how they might be handled.
