MRI of polysplenia syndrome

Magnetic Resonance Imaging, 1989
The polysplenia syndrome is the association of multiple spleens, situs inversus, congenital heart disease, and azygous continuation of the inferior vena cava. Magnetic resonance (MR) is a noninvasive imaging modality which can easily confirm the multiplicity of spleens, situs inversus, and identify complex congenital cardiovascular malformations.

Biliary atresia and the polysplenia syndrome

Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 1991
There is a widely held but unsubstantiated belief that in infants with biliary atresia and coexisting polysplenia syndrome, the Kasai operation fails. An equally poor prognosis has been forecast for patients with this complex treated by liver transplantation.

TORSION OF THE SPLEEN IN THE POLYSPLENIA SYNDROME

ANZ Journal of Surgery, 1984
A case of splenic torsion is presented in an adult with the polysplenia syndrome. The factors predisposing to splenic torsion are discussed. Splenic torsion may mimic acute appendicitis. The recommended treatment is splenectomy. The polysplenia syndrome may often be undiagnosed when cardiac defects are mild or absent.

Computed tomography of the polysplenia syndrome in the adult

Gastrointestinal Radiology, 1987
The computed tomographic appearance of the polysplenia syndrome in 2 cases is presented. Both are associated with absence of the hepatic segment of the inferior vena cava. Computed tomography can determine the exact location of the malpositioned organs, the presence of multiple spleens, and the type of the associated venous anomalies, which are the ...

ASPLENIA AND POLYSPLENIA SYNDROME

Acta Pathologica Japonica, 1982
This report described the morphological characteristics of seven cases of asplenia syndrome and three of polysplenia syndrome. Each syndrome has been characterized by a tendency for symmetric development of normally asymmetric organs, with varying degrees of cardiovascular anomalies.

Diagnosis of Polysplenia Syndrome

Radiology, 1971
Three cases of polysplenia were diagnosed by visceral arteriography. Each patient had a common celiacomesenteric artery. The origin of supply to the dislocated splenic lobules was variable. Such lobules were readily demonstrated at various sites along the greater curvature of the stomach.

Short Pancreas in Polysplenia Syndrome

Acta Radiologica, 1991
Two cases with the polysplenia syndrome also had a short pancreas. To the best of our knowledge the radiologic characteristics of this anatomic anomaly have not yet been reported. Both cases were asymptomatic with regard to their anomaly-complex. The radiologic findings of the short “pancreas” are similar to the only pathologic description of this ...
