Population Mobility and Transboundary Environmental Problems [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2001
Abstract A standard result in the literature on environmental economics is that efficient environmental policies regulating transboundary pollution will be adopted only if there is interjurisdictional coordination. Efficient policies can be adopted as a result of interregional treaties or mandated by a central authority.

Clinical methods to quantify trunk mobility in an elite male surfing population [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background: Thoracic mobility in the sagittal and horizontal planes are key requirements in the sport of surfing; however to date the normal values of these movements have not yet been quantified in a surfing population. Objectives: To develop a reliable

Exploring spatiotemporal variation characteristics of exceedance air pollution risk using social media big data

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2020
Air pollution in the form of PM _2.5 decreases life expectancy considering its contribution to morbidity and mortality. Therefore, scientific and accurate PM _2.5 exposure risk assessment is essential.

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Population Mobility Dynamics Estimated from Mobile Telephony Data [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Urban Technology, 2014
AbstractIn the last decade, mobile phones and mobile devices using mobile cellular telecommunication network connections have become ubiquitous. In several developed countries, the penetration of such devices has surpassed 100 percent. They facilitate communication and access to large quantities of data without the requirement of a fixed location or ...

Identification of functional murine mitochondrial formyl peptides and their effects on myeloid‐derived suppressor cell generation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We first identified functional murine mitochondrial N‐formyl peptides (MT‐FPs) and investigated their effects on the in vitro myeloid‐derived suppressor cell (MDSC) generation from bone marrow cells. We demonstrated that MT‐FPs acted directly on bone marrow cells to promote MDSC generation and modulated the polymorphonuclear (PMN)‐MDSC/monocyte (M ...
