Global emergence and evolutionary dynamics of bluetongue virus

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2020
Bluetongue virus (BTV) epidemics are responsible for worldwide economic losses of up to US$ 3 billion. Understanding the global evolutionary epidemiology of BTV is critical in designing intervention programs.

The accumulation of myeloid‐derived suppressor cells participates in abdominal infection‐induced tumor progression through the PD‐L1/PD‐1 axis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, Volume 19, Issue 5, Page 1532-1545, May 2025.
This study explores how sepsis affects GC progression by creating an immunosuppressive environment. Our findings reveal that sepsis promotes immune dysregulation, enhancing tumor growth and metastasis. Targeting the PD‐1/PD‐L1 pathway with monoclonal antibodies shows potential for restoring immune function and improving outcomes in cancer patients ...

Seasonal Population Movements and the Surveillance and Control of Infectious Diseases [PDF]

open access: yesTrends in Parasitology, 2017
National policies designed to control infectious diseases should allocate resources for interventions based on regional estimates of disease burden from surveillance systems. For many infectious diseases, however, there is pronounced seasonal variation in incidence.

Population-Based Surveillance of Birth Defects Potentially Related to Zika Virus Infection — 15 States and U.S. Territories, 2016

open access: yesMMWR. Morbidity and mortality weekly report, 2018
Zika virus infection during pregnancy can cause serious birth defects, including microcephaly and brain abnormalities (1). Population-based birth defects surveillance systems are critical to monitor all infants and fetuses with birth defects potentially ...

Polyfunctional CD8+CD226+RUNX2hi effector T cells are diminished in advanced stages of chronic lymphocytic leukemia

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, Volume 19, Issue 5, Page 1347-1370, May 2025.
CD226+CD8+ T cells express elevated levels of RUNX2, exhibit higher proliferation capacity, cytokines and cytolytic molecules expression, and migratory capacity. In contrast, CD226−CD8+ T cells display an exhausted phenotype associated with the increased expression of co‐inhibitory receptors and impaired effector functions.

What a million Indian farmers say?: A crowdsourcing-based method for pest surveillance [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Many different technologies are used to detect pests in the crops, such as manual sampling, sensors, and radar. However, these methods have scalability issues as they fail to cover large areas, are uneconomical and complex. This paper proposes a crowdsourced based method utilising the real-time farmer queries gathered over telephones for pest ...
