The evolution of porcelain insulator technology in Japan
IEEE Electrical Insulation Magazine, 1995Japan has succeeded in making homogeneous and high strength porcelain by pulverizing the raw materials into fine grains of micrometer order. Porcelain insulators manufactured with finer particle materials give superior mechanical and electrical strengths. The grain size of raw materials in Japan is much smaller than in Europe.

Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1916The fundamental requirements in satisfactory high-voltage line insulators are summarized and particular emphasis is placed upon the need for coordinated study of service durability. The effect of porosity upon durability is explained in detail and an appeal made for the establishment of a practical porosity elimination test.
