Development of the Porcelain Insulator
Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1931Porcelain insulators have been manufactured and used for the transmission of high-tension electric power for forty years. The first designs were of the single-piece and multipart cemented pin type. Necessity for higher safety factors against flash-over and increase in operating voltages demanded a rapid increase in the size of the insulators.

Fault analysis for lightning stroke-caused string fracture of 500 kV line porcelain insulators
Workshop on Automated Control for Datacenters and Clouds, 2020Under long-term environmental impact of electromechanical load, pollution, ambient temperature and humidity, the micropore and crack in cap and pin of porcelain Insulators will gradually expand, the mechanical strength and insulation performance ...

Simulation Analysis of Laser-Induced Damage of Porcelain Insulators
IEEE International Conference Power and Energy Systems, 2020As a new technology, laser cleaning can be applied to the on-line cleaning of insulators. There is still a potential risk of damage to the substrate of insulators under laser irradiation.

Dielectric behaviour of polluted porcelain insulators
IEE Proceedings - Generation, Transmission and Distribution, 2001The dielectric behaviour of polluted porcelain insulators is investigated by means of experimental tests and simulation methods. The elaboration of the experimental results, using well known mathematical models of polluted insulators, leads to the identification of the arc constants.

The testing of porcelain insulators
Journal of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, 1929The paper discusses the technique of porcelain insulator testing. The ground covered includes the usual electrical and mechanical tests called for in the various national specifications, and also special tests of more recent origin.

IEEE transactions on dielectrics and electrical insulation, 2019
Porcelain insulators were removed from 154 kV power transmission lines from three locations that were installed between 1969 and 1977. Visual inspection, three-dimensional computed tomography (3D-CT), and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analyses were carried ...

Countermeasure against explosion of gas insulated porcelain bushing
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1989In order to investigate countermeasures against the explosion of gas-insulated porcelain bushings, full-scale explosion tests using actual porcelain bushing shells were conducted. Suitable countermeasures are gas volume reduction, gas pressure reduction, and elastic lining methods.

The production of porcelain for electrical insulation — IV
Journal of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1923This article contains several excerpts taken from papers presented at recent meetings of the San Francisco and Los Angeles Sections by Dr. Joseph A. Jeffery on “Modern Methods of Firing High-Voltage Porcelain.” The pyrochemical reactions which take place during firing have been described1.

The application of porcelain to strain insulators
Proceedings of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1910Porcelain possesses some qualities which make it a very good material for line insulators and especially strain insulators. It can be moulded and worked into almost any desired form or size; when made of proper materials and properly burned it has practically no depreciation when exposed to the weather, acid fumes or gases, which sometimes create so ...
