Epidemiology and horizontal transmission of porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2)

Animal Health Research Reviews, 2010
AbstractPorcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) is a small, non-enveloped, circular, single-stranded DNA virus of economic importance in the swine industry worldwide. Based on the sequence analyses of PCV2 strains, isolates can be divided into five subtypes (PCV2a–e).

Does porcine circovirus type 3 (PCV3) interfere with porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) vaccine efficacy?

Transboundary and Emerging Diseases, 2019
PCV2 is globally spread pathogen involved in a number of diseases (PCVD). Commonly used vaccines against PCV2 are proved to be highly efficacious. The role of recently discovered PCV3 for pig health and interference with PCV2 remains unknown. The study performed on serum samples from seven farms vaccinated against PCV2 and four non-vaccinated showed ...

Detection of porcine Circovirus type 2 (PCV2) variants PCV2-1 and PCV2-2 in Brazilian pig population

Research in Veterinary Science, 2009
In the present study whole genome of six Brazilian isolates of PCV2 were sequenced, analyzed and compared with 35 other sequences (24 from other countries and 17 from Brazil). The phylogenetic analysis showed that mostly Brazilian variants of PCV2 were grouped as PCV2-1.

Origin of porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) from swine affected by PCV2‐associated diseases in Croatia

Veterinary Record, 2014
Porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) causes some of the most significant economic losses in pig production. Several multisystemic syndromes have been attributed to PCV2 infection, which are known as PCV2‐associated diseases (PCVDs). This study investigated the origin and evolution of PCV2 sequences in domestic pigs and wild boars affected by PCVDs in ...

Porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) vaccination reduces PCV2 in a PCV2 and Salmonella enterica serovar Choleraesuis coinfection model

Veterinary Microbiology, 2013
We previously reported that prior porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) infection potentiates the severity of clinical signs, lung lesions, and fecal shedding and tissue dissemination of Salmonella enterica serovar Choleraesuis in infected pigs. Here, we evaluated whether PCV2 vaccination is effective in reducing fecal shedding and tissue dissemination of S.

Horizontal transmission of porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2)

2018
Porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) is a small, non-enveloped, circular, single stranded DNA virus of economic importance in the swine industry worldwide. The focus of this dissertation was to investigate different aspects of horizontal transmission including the use of serology to accurately detect infection, the infectivity and amount of PCV2 present in

Effect of porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) vaccination on porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) and PCV2 coinfection

Veterinary Microbiology, 2008
The objectives were to determine if PCV2 vaccination is effective in reducing disease and lesions associated with PRRSV and PCV2 coinfection and if there is a difference between intradermal (ID) and intramuscular (IM) route of PCV2 vaccination. Seventy-four, 21-day-old pigs were randomly allocated into one of six groups.

Genetic diversity of porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) in Thailand during 2009–2015

Veterinary Microbiology, 2017
Porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2), the essential cause of porcine circovirus associated disease (PCVAD), has evolved rapidly and it has been reported worldwide. However, genetic information of PCV2 in Thailand has not been available since 2011. Herein, we studied occurrence and genetic diversity of PCV2 in Thailand and their relationships to the global ...

Shedding and infection dynamics of porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) after experimental infection

Veterinary Microbiology, 2011
The objective of this study was to determine the amount and infectivity of porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) shed in nasal, oral and fecal secretions following experimental infection. Fecal, oral and nasal swabs and blood were collected at regular intervals until 69 days post-inoculation (DPI) from five PCV2-experimentally inoculated pigs (Trial 1).
