Molecular Characterization of a New G (VP7) Genotype in Group B Porcine Rotavirus [PDF]

open access: yesIntervirology, 2018
Rotaviruses (RVs), a common cause of viral gastroenteritis in humans and animals, are classified into 9 established groups/species (RVA–RVI). Although RVB has been found in several countries, genetic variation among RVB field strains remains poorly characterized.

Emergence of a Novel G4P[6] Porcine Rotavirus with Unique Sequence Duplication in NSP5 Gene in China

open access: yesAnimals
Rotavirus is a major causative agent of diarrhoea in children, infants, and young animals around the world. The associated zoonotic risk necessitates the serious consideration of the complete genetic information of rotavirus.

Diarrhea outbreaks in suckling piglets due to rotavirus group C single and mixed (rotavirus groups A and B) infections

open access: yesPesquisa Veterinária Brasileira, 2014
Porcine group A rotavirus (PoRVA) is a major cause of neonatal diarrhea in suckling and recently weaned piglets worldwide. The involvement of non-group A rotavirus in cases of neonatal diarrhea in piglets are sporadic.

Isolation and Pathogenicity Analysis of a G5P[23] Porcine Rotavirus Strain

open access: yesViruses, 2023
(1) Background: Group A rotaviruses (RVAs) are the primary cause of severe intestinal diseases in piglets. Porcine rotaviruses (PoRVs) are widely prevalent in Chinese farms, resulting in significant economic losses to the livestock industry.

Genotypic and epitope characteristics of group A porcine rotavirus strains circulating in Canada

open access: yesVirology, 2017
Surveillance of Rotavirus A (RVA) infections in North America swine populations are limited and not performed over a significant time period to properly assess the diversity of RVA strains in swine. The VP7 (G) and VP4 (P) genes of 32 Canadian RVA strains, circulating between 2009 and 2015 were sequenced, identifying the G3P[13], G5P[7], G9P[7], G9[13],

Assay for evaluation of rotavirus-cell interactions: identification of an enterocyte ganglioside fraction that mediates group A porcine rotavirus recognition [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Virology, 1994
A virus-host cell-binding assay was developed and used to investigate specific binding between group A porcine rotavirus and MA-104 cells or porcine enterocytes. A variety of glycoconjugates and cellular components were screened for their ability to block rotavirus binding to cells.

Household Transmission of Rotavirus in a Community with Rotavirus Vaccination in Quininde, Ecuador [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Background: We studied the transmission of rotavirus infection in households in peri-urban Ecuador in the vaccination era. Methods: Stool samples were collected from household contacts of child rotavirus cases, diarrhea controls and healthy controls ...

High pathogenicity of emerging porcine G9P[23] and G11P[7] rotavirus for newborn piglets in China

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science
In order to better understand the pathogenicity of the current porcine A group rotavirus (PoRVA) field strains, AHBZ2304 (G9P[23]) and AHBZ2303 (G11P[7]) isolated from diarrhea suckling piglets were selected for pathogenicity analysis in the present ...

Plant‐Derived Probiotics From Fermented Foods: Current Evidence on Antiviral Mechanisms and Gut–Lung Axis Modulation

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 7, Issue 6, November 2026.
Plant‐derived probiotics from fermented foods exert anti‐respiratory virus effects via immune regulation, antiviral metabolites, and gut–lung axis, highlighting their advantages, key technologies, and application prospects. ABSTRACT Respiratory viral infections represent a major global public health threat, causing widespread morbidity, mortality, and ...

VP6 gene diversity in Brazilian strains of porcine group C rotavirus

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Research, 2010
Group C rotavirus (RV-C) has been found in Brazilian pig herds; however, wild-type strains have not yet been characterized. We made a molecular analysis of a region of gene 5 in Brazilian RV-C strains. Stool samples from 11 piglets (diarrheic and with normal consistency) positive for the RV-C VP6 gene in an RT-PCR assay were sequenced.
