Study of the relationship between hydro-mechanical soil behavior and microstructure of a structured soil

open access: yesEarth Sciences Research Journal, 2018
Structured soils, such as residual laterites or volcanic ashes, abound in tropical regions. The hydro-mechanical behavior of these soils is clearly related to their structure. New techniques based on microstructural studies constitute a powerful tool for

Microstructural evolution of compacted loess during consolidation and shearing

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2021
To understand the microstructural evolution of compacted loess during consolidation and shearing, the triaxial tests and the MIP technology are used to acquire the pore-size distribution curve of compacted loess specimens with different stress and strain

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Metallic salt deposition on porous particles by dry impregnation in fluidized bed: Effect of drying conditions on metallic nanoparticles distribution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In this paper, the fluidized bed dry impregnation of coarse alumina porous particles by a metallic salt, manganese nitrate, is investigated. In this technique the penetration of each drop of metallic solution in the porous solid particle and solvent ...

Estimating Hydraulic Properties of Soil from Constriction-pore Size Distribution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

The Influence of Liquid Properties on Fabric Pore Size Distribution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
To obtain detailed micron-scaled pore size distribution for cotton-polyester fabric (CPF), this study focus on the influence of wicking liquid properties on size distribution with three kinds of wicking liquid.

Virtual CT analysis of pore structure in DEM-generated granular media: Application to porous asphalt

open access: yesMaterials & Design
Computed tomography (CT) is widely used to characterise pore structures in granular and porous materials, yet the influence of voxel resolution on quantitative metrics remains insufficiently understood, particularly for DEM-generated assemblies with ...

Permeability-Selectivity Analysis of Microfiltration and Ultrafiltration Membranes: Effect of Pore Size and Shape Distribution and Membrane Stretching

open access: yesMembranes, 2016
We present a modeling approach to determine the permeability-selectivity tradeoff for microfiltration and ultrafiltration membranes with a distribution of pore sizes and pore shapes. Using the formulated permeability-selectivity model, the effect of pore

Cell geometry and membrane protein crowding constrain Escherichia coli growth rate, overflow metabolism, respiration, and maintenance energy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The physical dimensions and shape of bacterial cells define the surface area available to acquire nutrients and the volume available for synthesizing proteins and DNA. Here, we use computational systems biology to decode the importance of cell geometry as a major determinant of prokaryotic phenotype, including growth rate and metabolic efficiency. This
