Anomaly of Film Porosity Dependence on Deposition Rate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This Letter reports an anomaly of film porosity dependence on deposition rate during physical vapor deposition - the porosity increases as deposition rate decreases. Using glancing angle deposition of Cu on SiO2 substrate, the authors show that the Cu film consists of well separated nanorods when the deposition rate is 1 nm/second, and that the Cu ...

On Surface Wave Propagation Characteristics of Porosity-Based Reconfigurable Surface [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Reconfigurable surfaces facilitating energy-efficient, intelligent surface wave propagation have recently emerged as a technology that finds applications in many-core systems and 6G wireless communications. In this paper, we consider the porosity-based reconfigurable surface where there are cavities that can be filled on-demand with fluid metal such as

Development and Validation of a One‐Dimensional Finite Difference Simulation Scheme for Polymer Laser Powder Bed Fusion with Application to the Effect of the Inter Layer Time

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The study presents an efficient simulation approach for the polymer laser powder bed fusion process polymers process, validated with polyamide 12, polyamide 6, and polyetherketoneketone. It shows that inter layer time affects part density, with 90s yielding dense parts.

Chemostratigraphy of the Upper Jurassic (Oxfordian) Smackover Formation for Little Cedar Creek and Brooklyn Fields, Alabama

open access: yesGeosciences, 2019
The Upper Jurassic (Oxfordian Age) Smackover Formation is a significant source for hydrocarbon production in southwest Alabama. Brooklyn Field is in southeast Conecuh County, Alabama, and has been a major producer of oil and natural gas for the state ...

Development of Ternary Magnesium Alloys for Laser Powder Bed Fusion: Optimizing Oxide Layer Thickness

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing of magnesium alloys by laser is difficult because the melting point of the oxide layer is much higher than the evaporation temperature of the metal underneath. Making the oxide layer thinner can solve this problem. Alloying magnesium with strontium makes the oxide layer thinner, especially at 0.5 wt%.

Porosity and Its Significance in Plasma-Sprayed Coatings

open access: yesCoatings, 2019
Porosity in plasma-sprayed coatings is vital for most engineering applications. Porosity has its merits and demerits depending on the functionality of the coating and the immediate working environment.

Mechanisms of Increasing Weld Depth during Temporal Power Modulation in High‐Power Laser Beam Welding

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Temporal power modulation increases weld depth in high‐power laser beam welding of dissimilar round bars by nearly 20% compared to same average continuously welded welding power. The mechanism of action also applies to sheet welding and depends on the inertia of keyhole depth for the modulated laser beam power.

Mineralogy of the clay fraction of alfisols in two slope curvatures: IV - spatial correlation with physical properties Mineralogia da fração argila de um argissolo em curvaturas do relevo: II - correlação especial com atributos físicos

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Ciência do Solo, 2013
Although the influence of clay mineralogy on soil physical properties has been widely studied, spatial relationships between these features in Alfisols have rarely been examined.

On the nonexistence of a relation between σ-left-porosity and σ-right-porosity [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2012
Given an arbitrarily weak notion of left--porosity and an arbitrarily strong notion of right--porosity, we construct an example of closed subset of the real line which is not sigma-left--porous and is right--porous. We also briefly summarize the relations between three different definitions of porosity controlled by a function; we then ...

Survival of the impactor during hypervelocity collisions II: An analogue for high porosity targets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We investigated how a target's porosity affects the outcome of a collision, with respect to the impactor's fate. Laboratory impact experiments using peridot projectiles were performed at a speed range between 0.3 and 3.0 km/s, onto high porosity water-ice (40%) and fine-grained calcium carbonate (70%) targets.
