Induction healing of asphalt mastic and porous asphalt concrete

Construction and Building Materials, 2011
The objective of this paper is to detect the healing effect of asphalt mastic and porous asphalt concrete caused by induction heating. It was found that the broken mastic beams could be healed many times by induction heating. Moreover, the stiffness of porous asphalt concrete recovered more and faster when induction heating was applied to the samples ...

Development of porous asphalt mixture with bio-based epoxy asphalt

Journal of Cleaner Production, 2021
Abstract The high porosity of porous asphalt mixture improves wet skid resistance on pavements and reduces storm water runoff from pavements, but it also makes the mixture prone to raveling, and thus low durability, in the field. This study aims to improve the durability and strength of porous asphalt mixture by formulating bio-based epoxy asphalt ...

Experimental study of a porous asphalt

2020
Noise pollution is becoming a crucial problem in France as traffic is rapidly increasing. Therefore, quieter pavements are requested by many communities such as Limoges Metropole. The latter ordered the use of a low noise porous asphalt. This product is used as a wearing course. It is characterized by its phonic properties and improved skid resistance.

Induction Healing of Porous Asphalt

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2012
Research on the induction healing of porous asphalt is summarized. Steel wool is added to porous asphalt concrete to make it electrically conductive and suitable for induction heating. When microcracks occur in the material, an induction generator is used to heat the material to close the cracks by the high-temperature self-healing of bitumen.

Water Pressures in Porous Asphalt

2020
The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) has recently experienced a small number of high profile new pavement failures where the surfacing was a Porous Asphalt (PA). A performance review provided a range of expert opinions as to the possible causes and potential solutions.

Recycled porous asphalt concretes: Pros and contras

2023
Porous European Mixes (PEMs) have been recognized as one of the most adequate solutions for pursuing asphalt pavement sustainability. In fact, apart from the well-known advantages in terms of skid resistance improvement in wet conditions, porous mixes are also useful for traffic noise reduction.

Ageing Prediction of Porous Asphalt

Sustainable Construction Materials 2012, 2012
In order to be able to make a realistic life cycle analysis for porous asphalt (PA) surface layers, it is very important to be able to predict the PA surface layer properties during service life. As aging of these very high voids content mixes will change properties dramatically and initiate ravelling as the major cause of failure, in depth knowledge ...

Unravelling of porous asphalt

2015
Porous asphalt shows excellent performance in both noise reduction and water drainage. Although porous asphalt has these great qualities, its service life is much shorter (sometimes only half) compared to dense graded asphalt roads. Ravelling, which is the loss of aggregate particles from the surface layer, is the main damage mechanism of porous ...

Use of Reclaimed Asphalt in Porous Asphalt Mixtures: Laboratory and Field Evaluations

Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering, 2015
AbstractMaintenance and reconstruction of road pavements involve the production of huge amount of discarded material, such as reclaimed asphalt (RA), every year. As a consequence, issues related to RA stockpiles and disposals are dramatically increasing.

Performance Evaluation of Asphalt Rubber in Porous Asphalt-Concrete Mixtures

Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering, 2011
The purpose of this study was first to present the laboratory mix design results for porous asphalt concrete (PAC) mixtures blended with high-viscosity-graded cement (AR-80) and asphalt rubber (AR). In addition, the master curves of dynamic modulus were determined for both the unconfined and confined conditions to evaluate the rutting behavior of both ...
