The performance of a porous ceramic hydrostatic journal bearing
The performance of a porous-ceramic hydrostatic journal bearing manufactured by the starch consolidation (SC) technique has been examined using a highly instrumented test rig. The results have been compared with those of a 5-recess hydrostatic bearing of the same size and comparable design, under the same testing conditions.

Demonstration of a family of X‐ray dark‐field retrieval approaches on a common set of samples
This study aims to guide users of dark‐field imaging in selecting the most suitable technique for their imaging goals. To this end, we provide a summary table and highlight opportunities for future research into the sources of dark‐field contrast across emerging methods. There are various imaging setups capable of capturing dark‐field images, each with ...

Static characteristics of porous journal bearings with anisotropic permeability.
The static characteristic of oil filled porous journal bearings with anisotropic permeability are theoretically investigated. Considering anisotropic permeability, the Reynolds equation for the oil film is modified to include the effect of tangential velocity slip at the interface between the oil film and the porous medium, and the pressure equation ...

Exploring oxide quasicrystals in internal space
The internal space expansion with variable system size is investigated for three different oxide quasicrystal systems. Patches of 7800, 4800 and 3600 vertices are examined in Ba–Ti–O/Pt(111), Eu–Ti–O/Pd(111) and Sr–Ti–O/Pd(111), respectively. This internal space inspection provides unique structural information for quasicrystalline systems, which goes ...

Self-Similar Intermediate Asymptotics for a Degenerate Parabolic Filtration-Absorption Equation
The equation $$ \partial_tu=u\partial^2_{xx}u-(c-1)(\partial_xu)^2 $$ is known in literature as a qualitative mathematical model of some biological phenomena.

Churchill and Germany: A ‘Special’ Relationship
Abstract No other country defined the trajectory of Churchill's political career more than Germany, a country of which he had little direct knowledge but which he either sought to emulate, accommodate or oppose throughout his time in politics. This article traces Churchill's relationship with Germany from his entry into politics at the beginning of the
