Analysis of two-lobe porous hydrodynamic journal bearings

Wear, 1980
Abstract The two-lobe porous hydrodynamic journal bearing has been analysed to study its static and dynamic performance characteristics. A comparison of the static and dynamic performance characteristics of porous and non-porous two-lobe bearings has also been made on the basis of comprehensive data for a wide range of permeability parameters.

Analysis of Porous Layered Journal Bearing Lubricated with Ferrofluid

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2016
This paper presents an analysis of porous layered long journal bearing lubricated with ferrofluid using displaced infinitely long wire magnetic field model. The ferrofluid flow in the porous region is analyzed using modified Brinkman model.

Designing the Partially Porous Journal Bearings of an Aerostatic Spindle

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2017
The aerostatic journal bearings are widely used in ultra-precision machine tools. Due to remarkable ability of the porous medium in flow restriction, the porous aerostatic journal bearings are better than other types of aerostatic bearings in load carrying capacity, stiffness, damping and dynamic stability.

Design of aerostatic journal bearings with partially porous walls

International Journal of Machine Tool Design and Research, 1978
Abstract Steady-state characteristics of aerostatic journal bearings fed through rows of porous inserts are investigated. The use of a simplified mathematical model allows to derive relationships for the load-capacity, the stiffness, the gas flow rate and the power consumption of the bearing, as functions of the supply pressure, the relative ...

Externally Pressurized Gas Journal Bearings With Porous Inserts

Journal of Lubrication Technology, 1980
An analytical solution of externally pressurized gas journal bearings with porous inserts as restrictors is presented. The solution is based on a first-order perturbation method with respect to eccentricity ratio.

Axially undefined porous journal bearings considering cavitation

Wear, 1972
Abstract An analysis is made of the performance of axially undefined porous journal bearings using the Reynolds' boundary conditions. Expressions for angular film-extent, pressure distribution, load carrying capacity, attitude angle and coefficient of friction are obtained in closed form.

Gas-Lubricated Porous Bearings—Short Journal Bearings, Steady-State Solution

Journal of Lubrication Technology, 1977
The governing equations for a short porous bearing are derived by adopting Ocvirk’s approximation to the general equations for a finite bearing, which are given in a previous paper (reference [1]). Crank-Nicholson’s numerical method and the analytical-numerical technique, which consists of Green function approximation and the local smoothing by ...

An analytical solution for the pressure field in the long porous journal bearings

2004
Summary: Analytical solutions of the Reynolds equation for the porous journal bearings are not generally achievable and numerical methods must be involved. This paper presents an approximate mathematical model for the one-dimensional lubrication equation for the infinitely long porous journal bearing, obtaining a good agreement over the ranges of ...

Torque of misaligned gas-lubricated porous journal bearings

Wear, 1976
Abstract A perturbation solution is obtained for torque produced by misaligned porous gas journal bearings. It is shown that misalignment torque in porous bearings is higher than that obtained in conventional (externally pressurized and self-acting) gas bearings. The results are given in graphical and tabular form.

Analytical solution for two‐dimensional Reynolds equation for porous journal bearings

Industrial Lubrication and Tribology, 2006
PurposeAims to explore many aspects of the dynamic behaviour of a rotor on bearings, such as the fluid film force. In order to find in an analytical model an effective solution to provide a more readable description of the interaction between journal and bearing.Design/methodology/approachThe present theoretical analysis is carried out to determine the
