Calcification in free-living coralline algae is strongly influenced by morphology: Implications for susceptibility to ocean acidification

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Rhodolith beds built by free-living coralline algae are important ecosystems for marine biodiversity and carbonate production. Yet, our mechanistic understanding regarding rhodolith physiology and its drivers is still limited.

On the transport of emulsions in porous media [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2007
Emulsions appear in many subsurface applications including bioremediation, surfactant-enhanced remediation, and enhanced oil-recovery. Modeling emulsion transport in porous media is particularly challenging because the rheological and physical properties of emulsions are different from averages of the components.

MITF maintains genome stability in nonmelanocyte lineages

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
MITF is essential for melanocyte survival and acts as an oncogene in 10%–20% of melanomas. We show that MITF depletion causes genome instability in nonmelanocytic cells, leading to LATS2‐mediated P53 activation, cell cycle arrest, and apoptosis. This study highlights the role of MITF as a genome maintenance factor beyond the melanocyte lineage. Created

Enclosure enhancement of flight performance

open access: yesTheoretical and Applied Mechanics Letters, 2014
We use a potential flow solver to investigate the aerodynamic aspects of flapping flights in enclosed spaces. The enclosure effects are simulated by the method of images.

Porous Media Mechanics

open access: yes, 1994
A family of finite elements for two-dimensional, three-dimensional and axisymmetric finite deformation of porous media has been implemented into DIANA. This implementation includes two extensions of Biot’s theory: one for swelling media, the other for blood perfused soft tissue.

Oncogenic DMTF1β promotes cancer cell motility by regulating autophagy through ULK1 stabilization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the current study, we demonstrate that the oncogene DMTF1β regulates ULK1 stability by reducing its proteasomal degradation in cancer cells. This stabilization enables ULK1 to induce autophagy, which in turn facilitates cancer cell migration. Consequently, reduced DMTF1β levels lead to decreased autophagy and impaired cancer cell migration.

Biofilms in porous media: development of macroscopic transport equations via volume averaging with closure for local mass equilibrium conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In this work, we upscale a pore-scale description of mass transport in a porous medium containing biofilm to develop the relevant Darcy-scale equations.

Flow Simulation of Artificially Induced Microfractures Using Digital Rock and Lattice Boltzmann Methods

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
Microfractures have great significance in the study of reservoir development because they are an effective reserving space and main contributor to permeability in a large amount of reservoirs.

Molecular Dynamic Simulation of Crude Oil (SARA) Water Flooding Mechanisms under Different Driving Forces in Oleophilic Pore Channels

open access: yesGeofluids, 2022
This study investigates the variation of crude oil density distribution with water flooding time for different driving force conditions in the oleophilic pore channel.

YlmG1 is localized exclusively to the chloroplast envelope membrane and is involved in preprotein translocation in Arabidopsis thaliana

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cytosolically synthesized chloroplast preproteins are translocated across the outer and inner envelope membranes through translocons called TOC and TIC, respectively. In green algae and plants, the TIC core is composed of essential membrane proteins, Tic12, Tic20, and Tic214.
