Dewetting on porous media with aspiration

open access: yes, 2000
We consider a porous solid covered with a water film (or with a drop) in situations where the liquid is pumped in, either spontaneously (if the porous medium is hydrophilic) or mechanically (by an external pump).

Interaction between Molten Al‐Killed Mn–B Steel and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

Storage of supercritical carbon dioxide in nanoporous media

open access: yesJournal of CO2 Utilization
This study investigates the adsorption behavior of supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) in nanoporous materials, with a particular focus on the effects of temperature and pore size.

Four‐Point Bending Tests at High Temperatures on Commercial MgO‐C Refractory Bricks with and Without Recyclate Considering Different Carbon Contents

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Four‐point bending tests are conducted in an argon atmosphere on commercial MgO‐C brick grades with and without MgO‐C recyclate from room temperature up to 1300 °C. No detrimental effect of the MgO‐C recyclates on bending strength is found. Instead, a decisive influence of the total carbon content is observed, with lower total carbon contents ...

Shape optimization using the adjoint solver in computational fluid dynamics for additive manufacturing of a pollen filter

open access: yesAIP Advances
Pollen filters play an essential role in protecting people from airborne allergens and ensuring indoor air quality. Allergic reactions to pollen can lead to discomfort, reduced productivity, and increased healthcare costs.

Impact of using corrugated wall and nanofluid on the performance improvement of thermoelectric generator mounted channels

open access: yesRevue des Énergies Renouvelables
The influence of using a corrugated wall as a passive heat transfer enhancement technique for the sake of improving the power generation of thermoelectric generator (TEG) located in between two corrugated channels flowing nanofluid has been numerically ...

Uncertainty of flow in porous media [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The problem posed to the Study Group was, in essence, how to estimate the probability distribution of f(x) from the probability distribution of x. Here x is a large vector and f is a complicated function which can be expensive to evaluate.

Central Schemes for Porous Media Flows

open access: yes, 2009
We are concerned with central differencing schemes for solving scalar hyperbolic conservation laws arising in the simulation of multiphase flows in heterogeneous porous media.

Engineering Deformation and Failure in Diamond Triply Periodic Minimal Surface Lattices via 3D Wall‐Thickness Grading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The work demonstrates that strategic wall‐thickness grading in diamond triply periodic minimal surface lattices enables precise tuning of deformation and failure behavior under compression. Different gradation patterns guide how and where the structure collapses, improving energy absorption or promoting controlled brittle failure.

Advancing Electronic Application of Coordination Solids: Enhancing Electron Transport and Device Integration via Surface‐Mounted MOFs (SURMOFs)

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The layer‐by‐layer (LbL) assembly of coordination solids, enabled by the surface‐mounted metal‐organic framework (SURMOF) platform, is on the cusp of generating the organic counterpart of the epitaxy of inorganics. The programmable and sequential SURMOF protocol, optimized by machine learning (ML), is suited for accessing high‐quality thin films of ...
