Porphyrins. VIII. A stepwise synthesis of porphyrins
Australian Journal of Chemistry, 19641,2,3,4,5,6,7,8-Octanlethylporphin and α,γ,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8-decamethylporphin have been prepared by the acid-catalysed condensation of 5,5'-diformyl-3,4,3',4'-tetramethylmethanes (VI; R = H or CH3) with the corresponding dicarboxylic acid derivatives (VII), followed by oxidation.

Accounts of Chemical Research, 2018
In order to fabricate efficient molecular photonic devices, it has been a long-held aspiration for chemists to understand and mimic natural light-harvesting complexes where a rapid and efficient transfer of excitation energy between chlorophyll pigments is observed.

Porphyrins, porphyrin metabolism and porphyrias. I. Update
Scandinavian Journal of Clinical and Laboratory Investigation, 2000The biosynthesis of porphyrins is one of the most conserved parthways known, about the same sequence of reactions taking place in all species. By associating different metals, porphyrins give rise to the "pigments of life": chlorophyll, haem and cobalamin.

The synthesis and characterization of new nanoscale container molecules 7 and 8 are described. They are covalent hybrids of deepened, self-folding cavitands and metalloporphyrins. In receptor 7, the Zn-porphyrin wall is directly built onto the cavitand skeleton.

Excited-state dynamics of porphyrin–naphthalenediimide–porphyrin triads
Phys. Chem. Chem. Phys., 2013The excited-state dynamics of two triads consisting of a naphthalenediimide (cNDI) substituted at the core by two zinc (ZnP) or free-base tetraphenylporphyrins (FbP) was investigated by ultrafast fluorescence and transient absorption spectroscopy. The electronic absorption spectra of the triads are almost the composites of those of the constituents ...

Porphyrin-lipoprotein association as a factor in porphyrin localization
Cancer Letters, 1986Systemic administration of the tumor-localizing product hematoporphyrin derivative (HPD) to mice bearing the Lewis-Lung tumor leads to an initial distribution of porphyrins among plasma lipoproteins and albumin. The more hydrophobic components of HPD (including the tumor-localizing fraction) preferentially bind to plasma low density lipoprotein (LDL ...

Non-canonical interactions of porphyrins in porphyrin-containing proteins
Amino Acids, 2012In this study we have described the noncanonical interactions between the porphyrin ring and the protein part of porphyrin-containing proteins to better understand their stabilizing role. The analysis reported in this study shows that the predominant type of non-canonical interactions at porphyrins are CH····O and CH····N interactions, with a small ...
