Calcium element quantification model using a portable X-ray fluorescence unit [PDF]

A methodology is proposed to achieve an effective quantification of the element Calcium in soil samples, using a portable X-ray Fluorescence (pXRF) equipment. The protocol began by preparing two ideal matrices using an increasing mass, measured on an analytical balance, of Calcium and Sodium Nitrate as binder. It is the Gravimetric technique.

A handheld x-ray spectrometer has been realized and tested. The purpose of the device is to measure the thickness of coated samples in the range of 1–1500nm in an industrial environment. Accuracy of ∼3% has been achieved in this range with a measurement time of 1min.

A potable X-ray fluorescence spectrometer composed of an electric battery X-ray generator and a silicon drift detector was made. Several kinds of samples, including toxic elements, such as lead and cadmium, were measured in air using this spectrometer. A possibility to analyze these toxic elements is discussed.
