Portable X-ray fluorescence system to measure Th and U concentrations

Journal of Environmental Radioactivity, 2018
This study reports the results obtained in the analysis of waste material samples generated by the industries of phosphate fertilizers, in particular, the use of specific filters in a portable X-ray fluorescence system, a simple equipment allowing the characterization, identification and quantification of low concentrations of Th and U (ppm).

Elemental assessment of vegetation via portable X-ray fluorescence (PXRF) spectrometry

Journal of Environmental Management, 2018
Elemental concentrations in vegetation are of critical importance, whether establishing plant essential element concentrations (toxicity vs. deficiency) or investigating deleterious elements (e.g., heavy metals) differentially extracted from the soil by plants.

Portable X-ray fluorescence analysis of Armenian obsidian sources

ARAMAZD: Armenian Journal of Near Eastern Studies, 2018
During recent years the most effective and practical method for volcanic glass, commonly called obsidian sourcing is portable X-ray fluorescence (pXRF). In spite of the reliability of this method and the growing demand in recent years, the Armenian obsidian sources have been analyzed by using the above-mentioned analytical method only in the few ...

Determination of Soil Calcium Using Field Portable X-Ray Fluorescence

Soil Science, 2009
AbstractSoil calcium (Ca) determines several characteristics of soil fertility and affects many plant functions after absorption. It is necessary to develop a method to quickly determine soil Ca content in situ because soil Ca content can vary considerably in natural environments.

Identification Techniques II: X-ray techniques and X-ray fluorescence with portable systems

2013
Energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) portable spectrometers are becoming very popular in many fields for the on-site analysis of elements. This is mainly because EDXRF is a nondestructive, multielemental technique that is extremely well suited for the analysis of any material.

A Field-Portable X-Ray Fluorescence Instrument: Design and Applications

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2007
The field portable XRF (FPXRF) spectrometer is composed of a measuring head that holds the detector (Si‐PIN) and the excitation sources (Cd‐109 and Am‐241) and the spectrum acquisition system. The application of this system for the analysis of cultural heritage artifacts will be presented and discussed.
