Successful Thrombectomy via a Surgically Reopened Umbilical Vein for Extended Portal Vein Thrombosis Caused by Portal Vein Embolization prior to Extended Liver Resection

open access: yesCase Reports in Gastroenterology, 2020
Selective portal vein embolization (PVE) before extended liver surgery is an accepted method to stimulate growth of the future liver remnant. Portal vein thrombosis (PVT) of the main stem and the non-targeted branches to the future liver remnant is a ...

Two Decades of Multimodal Management of Colorectal Liver Metastases With Long‐Term Outcomes

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background The management of patients with colorectal liver metastases (CRLM) is complex and requires a tailored approach based on disease extent, patient age, and comorbidities. Given the heterogeneity in presentation and evolving treatment algorithms, prognostic factors for long‐term survival following liver resection are contested.

Extracorporeal Albumin Dialysis (OPAL) as Novel Therapeutic Bridging Option in Posthepatectomy Liver Failure

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
Extracorporeal albumin dialysis (OPAL) effectively reduces bilirubin and improves other laboratory markers in posthepatectomy liver failure, particularly in secondary forms. It may serve as a bridging therapy to support hepatic recovery in critically ill patients, although prospective studies are needed to confirm its impact on survival.

Short‐ and long‐term outcome and quality of life assessment in dogs undergoing transvenous coil embolization of congenital intrahepatic portosystemic shunts

open access: yesVeterinary Surgery, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective To evaluate short‐ and long‐term outcomes and health‐related quality of life (Hr‐QoL) in dogs with congenital intrahepatic portosystemic shunts (cIHPSS) treated using percutaneous transcatheter embolization (PTCE). Study design Single center retrospective and prospective study. Animals Sixty‐one client‐owned dogs.

Left trisectionectomy combined with resection of the right hepatic vein and inferior vena cava after right hepatic vein embolization for advanced intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma

open access: yesSurgical Case Reports, 2019
Background When the inferior right hepatic vein (IRHV) is present, left hepatic trisectionectomy with resection of the right hepatic vein (RHV) is theoretically possible without reconstruction of the RHV. We here report a successful case of this extended

Endoscopic Thrombin Injection for Gastric Variceal Bleeding: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis of Observational and Trial Data

open access: yesDEN Open, Volume 7, Issue 1, April 2027.
ABSTRACT Objective The safety of endoscopic thrombin injection (ETI) for treating the bleeding of gastric varix (GV) in patients with portal hypertension requires further evaluation. This meta‐analysis systematically reviews the available evidence on the efficacy and safety of ETI for GV bleeding.

Outcomes of Liver Transplant Versus Partial Hepatectomy for Perihilar Cholangiocarcinoma Patients Requiring Arterial Reconstruction

open access: yesLiver International, Volume 46, Issue 7, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Liver resection (LR) and orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) are therapeutic options for locally advanced perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (pCCA) requiring hepatic artery reconstruction (HAR). This study aimed to compare short‐ and long‐term outcomes of LR and OLT. Outcomes were major vascular complications, 90‐day mortality,
