The effect of learner errors on POS tag errors during automatic POS tagging
Southern African Linguistics and Applied Language Studies, 2002The use of a corpus as a language resource is enhanced when it is part of speech (POS) tagged. There are a number of computer tagging programs (taggers) available. In order to decide which taggers to use to POS tag the Tswana Learner English Corpus (TLEC), the performance of three taggers (TOSCA-ICLE, Brill tagger, and CLAWS) was evaluated on a small ...

A hybrid Arabic POS tagging for simple and compound morphosyntactic tags
International Journal of Speech Technology, 2015The objective of this work is to develop a POS tagger for the Arabic language. This analyzer uses a very rich tag set that gives syntactic information about proclitic attached to words. This study employs a probabilistic model and a morphological analyzer to identify the right tag in the context.

On the Road to High-Quality POS-Tagging
2005In this paper, we present techniques aimed at avoiding typical errors of state-of-the-art POS-taggers and at constructing high-quality POS-taggers with extremely low error rates. Such taggers are very helpful, if not even necessary, for many NLP applications organized in a pipeline architecture.

Experimental Study of Chinese POS Tagging
Proceedings of the 2018 2nd International Conference on Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, 2018Chinese POS tagging is an important task in Chinese information processing, and many other Chinese natural language processing tasks are dependent on it. Nowadays, there exist a lot of approaches to Chinese POS tagging, and they exploit different machine learning frameworks. We conducted experiments on the People Daily corpus for 6 tagging methods from

PoS Tagging for Classical Chinese Text
2015The Chinese language is evolving over the centuries. In order to study the changes of Chinese language using computational methods, segmentation and PoS tagging of Chinese are essential. However, segmentation and PoS tagging methods developed for Modern Standard Chinese do not perform well for Classical Chinese. The cost of segmenting and annotation is

Traditional part of speech tagging assigns very limited information to lexical items, thus providing only limited help for parsing. To solve this problem, [14] extends the notion of POS by introducing Supertags, within the framework of Lexicalized Tree Adjoining Grammars (LTAGs).

A Study of the Influence of PoS Tagging on WSD
2006In this paper we discuss to what extent the choice of one particular Part-of-Speech (PoS) tagger determines the results obtained by a word sense disambiguation (WSD) system We have chosen several PoS taggers and two WSD methods By combining them, and using different kind of information, several experiments have been carried out The WSD systems have ...

A BERT Based Approach for Arabic POS Tagging
2021Large pre-trained language models, such as BERT, have recently achieved state-of-the-art performance in different natural language processing tasks. However, BERT based models in Arabic language are less abundant than in other languages. This paper aims to design a grammatical tagging system for texts in Arabic language using BERT.

Improved pos tagging for text-to-speech synthesis
2011 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP), 2011One of the fundamental building blocks of text processing for text-to-speech (TTS) synthesis is the assignment of a part-of-speech (POS) tag to each input word. POS tags are heavily relied upon for downstream natural language analysis and prosody rendering.

Tuning SyntaxNet for POS Tagging Italian Sentences
2017SyntaxNet is the NLP framework released by Google in 2016, claimed by its authors as the most accurate dependency parser over across 40 languages beyond English. It relies on a transition-based model implementing POS tagger and dependency parser modules.
