Identity and Function of a Cardiac Mitochondrial Small Conductance Ca2+-Activated K+ Channel Splice Variant [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We provide evidence for location and function of a small conductance, Ca2+-activated K+ (SKCa) channel isoform 3 (SK3) in mitochondria (m) of guinea pig, rat and human ventricular myocytes. SKCa agonists protected isolated hearts and mitochondria against

Does Long-Term Elevation of CO2 Concentration Increase Photosynthesis in Forest Floor Vegetation? (Indiana Strawberry in a Maryland Forest). [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
As the partial pressure of CO2 (pCO2) in the atmosphere rises, photorespiratory loss of carbon in C3 photosynthesis will diminish and the net efficiency of light-limited photosynthetic carbon uptake should rise.

Heterogeneity of Rheumatoid Arthritis‐Associated Interstitial Lung Disease by Longitudinal Forced Vital Capacity Trajectory and Associations with Disease Outcomes

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective We aimed to identify unique disease trajectories within rheumatoid arthritis‐associated interstitial lung disease (RA‐ILD) based on longitudinal forced vital capacity (FVC) values and their associated clinical outcomes. Methods We performed a cohort study of RA‐ILD within the Veterans Health Administration from 1999‐2021. RA‐ILD patients were

Comparison of the effects of open and closed aspiration on end-expiratory lung volume in acute respiratory distress syndrome [PDF]

open access: yesKorean Journal of Anesthesiology
Background Alveoli tend to collapse in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Endotracheal aspiration may increase alveolar collapse due to the loss of end-expiratory lung volume (EELV).

Extracorporeal Catalytic Hemoperfusion Therapy for Refractory Septic Shock Using Ceria Nanoparticle‐Embedded Porous Microbeads

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces an extracorporeal hemoperfusion system incorporating porous microbeads embedded with autocatalytic ceria nanoparticles (CeNPs) for targeted reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging in septic shock. The blood‐compatible hemoperfusion cartridge demonstrated significant improvements in survival, hemodynamic stability, and organ ...

Oscillatory ventilation enhances oxygenation and reduces inflammation in an animal model of acute respiratory distress syndrome: an experimental study

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Anesthesiology
Background: This study aims to compare the use of variable mechanical ventilation with conventional mechanical ventilation in a porcine model of ARDS induced by oleic acid.

Comparison of lung aeration loss in open abdominal oncologic surgeries after ventilation with electrical impedance tomography-guided PEEP versus conventional PEEP: a pilot feasibility study [PDF]

open access: yesKorean Journal of Anesthesiology
Background Existing literature lacks high-quality evidence regarding the ideal intraoperative positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) to minimize postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs). We hypothesized that applying individualized PEEP derived from

HIF1A reduces acute lung injury by optimizing carbohydrate metabolism in the alveolar epithelium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Background: While acute lung injury (ALI) contributes significantly to critical illness, it resolves spontaneously in many instances. The majority of patients experiencing ALI require mechanical ventilation.

In‐Situ Growth of 2D MOFs as a Molecular Sieving Layer on SnS2 Nanoflakes for Realizing Ultraselective H2S Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 12, March 18, 2025.
The ultraselective H2S detection of the ZIF‐L/SnS2 heterostructure is demonstrated. The introduction of 2‐dimensional (2D) breathable ZIF‐L results in a substantial increase in H2S selectivity attributable to the molecular sieving effect, which impedes the permeation of gases with large kinetic diameters and high polarity.

Pulmonar recruitment in acute respiratory distress syndrome. What is the best strategy?

open access: yesRevista do Colégio Brasileiro de Cirurgiões
Supporting patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), using a protective mechanical ventilation strategy characterized by low tidal volume and limitation of positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) is a standard practice in the intensive ...
