Acoustic Features of Airway Protective Maneuvers as Biomarkers of Radiation‐Associated Dysphagia and Penetration/Aspiration in Head and Neck Cancer Patients

open access: yesHead &Neck, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background This study aimed at identifying acoustic features of airway protective maneuvers as biomarkers of radiation‐associated dysphagia, involving penetration/aspiration and pharyngeal residue. Methods Temporal and spectral acoustical analyses were carried out on voluntary coughs, voluntary throat clearings, and reflexive coughs.

Informed consent and ethical issues pertaining to female sterilization—Scoping review

open access: yesInternational Journal of Gynecology &Obstetrics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Female sterilization, a safe, permanent method of contraception that blocks the fallopian tubes, has been in use since the 19th century. The procedure necessitates informed consent, a critical step that has been marred by reports of forced sterilization since World War II. These incidents often stem from inadequate consent processes

Thermodynamic Stability of Medium with an Alternating-Sign Pressure [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2012
The thermodynamic medium is treated as homogeneous phase equilibrium with a special feature: the pressure of one phase is positive and the pressure of the other is negative. From this point of view such medium is neither mixture, usual solution nor gel (or sol as a whole) regardless its components (solvent and dissolved substances).

The freedom to mentalize: The influence of socio‐demographic indicators of empowerment on parental reflective functioning

open access: yesInfant Mental Health Journal: Infancy and Early Childhood, EarlyView.
Abstract Parental reflective functioning (PRF), a critical construct in the field of infant mental health, has been under investigated in non‐WEIRD countries, where the majority of the world's infants are born. Studies from WEIRD contexts have demonstrated a relationship between socio‐demographic and parental reflective functioning scores.

Negative thermodynamic pressure: no-go theorem and yes-go examples [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Theory and experiment have long discussed negative thermodynamic pressure states, but their microscopic origins are unclear. I address this problem within the framework of quantum thermodynamics. I show that the pressure exerted on the boundary is positive when there is no interaction with the boundary.

Adaptive respiratory muscle trainer based on hybrid nanogenerator sensor and artificial intelligence

open access: yesInfoMat, EarlyView.
We manufacture a training device for respiratory muscle resistance training, with respiratory states sensing and resistance self‐adaption. Abstract Respiratory muscle training can improve respiratory function by strengthening muscle mass, which is of great help to populations with respiratory system diseases and athletes.

High-pressure Ion Trap [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
A High-Pressure Ion Trap operating at pressure ~1 Torr is a core component of the portable hand-held mass-spectrometric gas analyzer. A comprehensive mathematical model of the HPIT is described in this paper. The influence of the instrumental parameters (gas composition, pressure, and temperature; applied voltages; ion trap size and geometry) and ion ...
