On Expressing Value Externalities in Position Auctions

Proceedings of the AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence, 2011
We introduce a bidding language for expressing negative value externalities in position auctions for online advertising. The unit-bidder constraints (UBC) language allows a bidder to condition a bid on its allocated slot and on the slots allocated to other bidders.

Quasi-positive realization of externally positive discrete systems

2014 European Control Conference (ECC), 2014
The positive realization of externally positive systems described by their transfer matrix H(z) is a difficult problem whose analysis has been completed only recently on the basis of algebraic and geometric approaches that underline the many constraints that condition the solution of this problem.

Object Allocation and Positive Graph Externalities

2020
The worth of an entity does not only come from its intrinsic value. The other entities in the neighborhood also influence this quantity. We introduce and study a model where some heterogeneous objects have to be placed on a network so that the elements with high value may exert a positive externality on neighboring elements whose value is lower. We aim

Positive externalities of CEO delta

European Financial Management, 2018
AbstractIncreases in delta incentives are dramatic for a small group of firms (leader firms) but negligible for the majority. We show that leader firms have larger market capitalization and higher irreversibility, and are in industries with negative shocks.

The ‘Conditional Position Problem’ for epistemic externalism

Synthese, 2018
In this paper, I develop a problem I call the “Conditional Position Problem” that arises for Ernest Sosa’s externalist epistemology. The problem is that, due to a phenomenon of epistemic circularity, one is unable to attain the reflective knowledge that one is justified in believing that perception is reliable, and is confined to the merely conditional

Cultural goods and their positive externalities

World Futures, 1992
Abstract No‐one can doubt the positive externalities of culture and its impact on stimulating the economy. Ideologies are also easy to find for justifying particular ways of subsidizing culture. On the other hand, the techniques that can be assigned to the ideologies involve serious difficulties.

The Positive Externalities of CEO Delta

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2017
We show that firms’ Delta incentives can predict the market performance of their industry peers. When a small group of firms (leader firms) experiences substantial growth in Delta incentives, industry peers experience positive abnormal returns and abnormal improvement in fundamentals despite having no significant change in Delta.

Resource Allocation with Positive Externalities

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2016
We study a budget allocation problem between two players where budget allocations entail positive externalities. We characterize an optimal mechanism when the designer is unable to commit ex ante to the allocation rule. Without commitment, every incentive compatible mechanism the designer can implement is a hierarchical mechanism --- the allocation ...

Tourism and sustainability: the positive externality

International Journal of Sustainable Economy, 2012
The environmental impact of touristic production is different from that of other productions. Touristic services are produced the same as every other private good by profit maximising firms, but part of the production itself consists of environmental improvements.

External Positions and Policies

This year’s report provides the external sector assessment of 30 of the world’s largest economies on the basis of their 2024 data. Global current account balances in 2024 widened significantly. Staff assessment suggests that excess current account balances account for about two-thirds of the widening, with China, the United States, and the euro area ...
