Ligand‐dependent transcriptional heterogeneity in cell cycle gene expression delays G1/S entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
EGF and HRG induce distinct G1/S progression programs in ErbB2‐amplified BT474 breast cancer cells. Despite activating the potent ErbB2–ErbB3 heterodimer, HRG does not accelerate cell‐cycle entry. Instead, EGF promotes earlier restriction‐point passage via ERK–FOS signaling, whereas HRG activates the AKT–MYC axis, driving transcriptional heterogeneity ...

On positive sequences of reals whose block sequence has an asymptotic distribution function [PDF]

open access: yesNotes on Number Theory and Discrete Mathematics
In this paper we study the properties of the unbounded sequence 0≤y₁≤y₂≤y₃≤... of positive reals having asymptotic distribution function of the form x^λ.

Synergistic perspectives—How single‐molecule biophysics complement biochemical understanding

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this review, we discuss how ensemble biochemistry and single‐molecule approaches are complementary, outline commonly used single‐molecule techniques, and illustrate their relevance through two representative case studies: chromatin organization by SMC complexes and pathway choice during DNA double‐strand break repair.

Existence of multiple solutions for quasilinear elliptic equations in R^N

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2014
In this article, we establish the multiplicity of positive weak solution for the quasilinear elliptic equation $$\displaylines{ -\Delta_p u+\lambda|u|^{p-2}u=f(x) |u|^{s-2 }u+h(x)|u|^{r-2}u\quad x\in \mathbb{R}^N,\cr u>0\quad x\in \mathbb{R}^N ...

Infinitely divisible positive definite sequences [PDF]

open access: yesTransactions of the American Mathematical Society, 1969
Introduction. Sequences of complex numbers which generate positive semidefinite Toeplitz or Hankel matrices occur naturally in many areas of mathematics and are usually called positive definite sequences. It is well known that a sequence formed from a positive integer power of the terms of a positive definite sequence is always itself a positive ...

On the Positivity Problem for Simple Linear Recurrence Sequences, [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Given a linear recurrence sequence (LRS) over the integers, the Positivity Problem} asks whether all terms of the sequence are positive. We show that, for simple LRS (those whose characteristic polynomial has no repeated roots) of order 9 or less, Positivity is decidable, with complexity in the Counting Hierarchy.

Structural and biochemical analysis of a B12 superbinder

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
BtuG proteins are vitamin B12 scavengers in Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron, a dominant human gut bacterium. We present crystal structures of three BtuG homologs bound to cobalamin and its precursor cobinamide, revealing picomolar binding affinities, among the highest known for any natural protein.

MOSAL : software tools for multiobjective sequence alignment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Multiobjective sequence alignment brings the advantage of providing a set of alignments that represent the trade-off between performing insertion/deletions and matching symbols from both sequences. Each of these alignments provide a potential explanation

An Analog of Multiplier Sequences for the Set of Totally Positive Sequences

open access: yesZurnal matematiceskoj fiziki, analiza, geometrii
A real sequence $(b_k)_{k=0}^\infty$ is called totally positive if all minors of the infinite matrix $ \left\| b_{j-i} \right\|_{i, j =0}^\infty$ are nonnegative (here $b_k=0$ for $k<0$). In this paper, we investigate the problem of description of the set of sequences $(a_k)_{k=0}^\infty$ such that for every totally positive sequence $(b_k)_{k=0 ...
