The tail of a positivity-preserving semigroup
Israel Journal of Mathematics, 1974With certain assumptions a representation theorem is proved for the elements of $$ \cap _{\sigma \in \Sigma } $$ σS, where Σ is an abelian semigroup of, endomorphisms of a real vector space, andS is a convex antisymmetric cone.

Positivity-Preserving Numerical Schemes for Lubrication-Type Equations
SIAM Journal on Numerical Analysis, 1999Lubrication equations are fourth-order degenerate diffusion equations of the form \(h_t + \nabla \cdot ( {f( h)\nabla \Delta h}) = 0\), describing thin films or liquid layers driven by surface tension. Recent studies of singularities in which \(h \to 0\) at a point, describing rupture of fluid layer, show that such equations exhibit complex dynamics ...

Positivity Preserving Model Reduction
2009We propose a model reduction method for positive systems that ensures the positivity of the reduced model. Our approach is based on constructing diagonal solutions of Lyapunov inequalities. These are linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), which are shown to be feasible.

Positivity preserving chemical Langevin equations
Chemical Physics, 2008Chemical kinetic equations for cellular biochemical systems generally include stochastic contributions which arise as a consequence of Brownian buffeting of the small numbers of participating molecules. The precise structure of these kinetic equations is not known with complete certainty, but at present some arguments favor equations of chemical ...

Positivity preserving non-Markovian master equations
Physical Review E, 2000A general class of integrodifferential non-Markovian master equations is developed which is representative of the dynamics of small subsystems interacting with open reservoirs with memory. Conditions which guarantee positivity of the subsystem reduced density are established.
