Single shot positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy
Applied Physics Letters, 2006Recent developments in positron trapping technology have made possible experimentation with dense interacting positronium gases. Along with these capabilities comes a need for suitable measurement techniques, and accordingly we have developed a method to measure positronium lifetimes from a single intense burst of positrons.

Antiplasticization of a polyamide: a positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy study
Polymer, 2004Abstract In order to modify the transport properties of the amorphous polyamide Trogamid-T™, several additives with structural characteristics that produce antiplasticization have been tested. Positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy (PALS) has been used to determine both the size of free volume holes and the number of holes (free fractional free ...

Characterization of activated carbon fibers by Positron Annihilation Lifetime Spectroscopy (PALS)
The use of Positron Annihilation Lifetime Spectroscopy (PALS) technique to characterize porous carbon materials has been analyzed. Positron annihilation lifetimes have been measured in two series of petroleum pitch-based activated carbon fibers (ACF) prepared by CO2 and steam activation.

Positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy of annealed tungsten
Kerntechnik, 2022Abstract Three samples of 99.97% pure rolled tungsten were annealed at 700 °C, 1000 °C, and 1400 °C in a vacuum of about 10−6 mbar for 1 h. Then the effects of annealing were investigated. For this purpose, defects and their structure in the three annealed samples and the as-received sample, were studied, characterized, and compared by ...

Source correction in positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy
Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter, 1996The positron lifetimes in a source have been measured. The fraction of positrons annihilated in salt and in the Kapton supporting foils has been determined as a function of the atomic number Z of the sample. All of the experimental results have been compared with calculated values obtained from a computer program based on a Monte Carlo algorithm.

Positron Annihilation Lifetime and Doppler Broadening Spectroscopy of polymers
Radiation Physics and Chemistry, 2020Abstract Positron Annihilation Lifetime and Doppler Broadening spectroscopy of positron annihilation radiation are performed in four different polymers. The size of elementary free volume sites and their chemical environments are determined. It is shown that polymers with different groups of C–H, C O, and C–F can be distinguished by their orbital ...

Open volume in bioadhesive detected by positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy
Acta Biomaterialia, 2010Barnacles attach to a wide variety of surfaces underwater and show substrate-specific adhesion mechanisms. Investigating and understanding these mechanisms is a key for developing new technical adhesives. We expected open volume (porosity) at the sub-nanometre scale to occur in barnacle adhesive.
