Finite element post‐buckling analysis for frames

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 1977
AbstractPresented in this paper is a direct method of analysis of the elastic non‐linear behaviour of frames. Emphasis is given to the method's capability of tracing the post‐buckling path from a bifurcation point although the method can also trace the non‐linear behaviour of frames with eccentricities.

A method of post-buckling analysis

Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids, 1969
Abstract A method of post-buckling analysis is described which is related to some work of W.T. K oiter . Differences in starting data and objectives between this method and the author's recent general theory of equilibrium behaviour near critical points are pointed out.

Examination of Plate Post-Buckling Behavior

Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division, 1977
The main results of a number of previous papers by the writers on plate post-buckling behavior are summarized, and additional results for specific plate problems are presented in the form of simple expressions relating load, deflections, end displacements, and stresses.

Post-Buckling Analysis of Guyed Towers

Journal of the Structural Division, 1981
The post-buckling behavior of short towers, supported by a single set of guy wires is investigated. Using the principle of stationary potential energy, a set of non-linear algebraic equations are obtained for both fixed and hinged-base towers. The equations are solved numerically for several actual systems.

Thermal post-buckling of circular plates

Computers & Structures, 1984
The thermal post-buckling behaviour of isotropic circular plates has been studied in this paper by a simple finite element formulation. The accuracy of the solution by finite element method is established through a solution by the Rayleigh-Ritz method for simply-supported circular plates.

Buckling and Post-buckling of Beams

2017
This chapter presents buckling and post-buckling analysis of straight beams under thermal and mechanical loads. The Euler and Timoshenko beam theories are considered and buckling and postbuckling behaviors are discussed. The buckling analysis of beams with piezoelectric layers is presented and the effect of piezo-control on the beam stability is ...

Shear effect on cruciform post-buckling

Engineering Structures, 2013
Abstract The elastic post-torsional-buckling behaviour of a simply supported cruciform column has been analysed, and its strength has been approximated by assuming that it fails when it first yields due to the maximum normal stress induced by the axial compression. However, torsional shear stresses are induced in the post-buckling regime.

Inelastic Post‐buckling Analysis of Trusses

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1983
Geometric and physical nonlinearities are considered in the investigation of the post‐critical ultimate load conditions of space trusses. The inelastic behavior of struts is accounted for by tracing the complete stress‐strain relationships in the elastoplastic range. The unloading characteristics of struts in the post‐critical elastic‐perfectly plastic
