Parental care in Cryptops hortensis (Donovan) (Chilopoda: Scolopendromorpha) from Serbia, the Balkan peninsula [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Biological Sciences, 2012
Parental care in the geographically widespread cryptopid scolopendromorph Cryptops hortensis (Donovan) is described for the first time. It was observed that the adult female rolls her body around the mass of hatchlings with the ventral side against ...

Embryonic exposure to environmentally relevant levels of tributyltin affects embryonic tributyltin bioaccumulation and the physiological responses of juveniles in cuttlefish (Sepia pharaonis)

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety, 2023
Tributyltin (TBT) is a typical organic pollutant that persists in aquatic sediments due to its wide usage as an antifouling fungicide during the past few decades. Despite increased awareness of the serious negative consequences of TBT on aquatic species,

Post-Embryonic Development of the Horseshoe Crab

open access: yesThe Biological Bulletin, 1988
Individuals of Limulus polyphemus and Ta- chypleus tridentatus reached, respectively, the fourteen- th-instar and tenth-instar stages during our nine-year rearing experiment. Body sizes were measured using exu viae and body specimens. The results made their growth steps clear, and body sizes of the juveniles at further growth stages could be estimated.

The Post-embryonic Development of the Tracheal System in Drosophila melanogaster

open access: yesJournal of Cell Science, 1957
ABSTRACT The fate of the tracheal system is traced from the first larval instar to the adult stage. The basic larval pattern conforms to that shown for other Diptera Cyclorrhapha (Whitten, 1955), and is identical in all three instars. According to previous accounts the adult system directly replaces the larval: the larval ...

Unraveling the Consequences of Oxygen Imbalance on Early Embryo Development: Exploring Mitigation Strategies

open access: yesAnimals, 2023
Although well-established and adopted by commercial laboratories, the in vitro embryo production system still requires refinements to achieve its highest efficiency. Early embryonic development is a dynamic event, demanding suitable conditions to provide

Non-systemic metamorphosis in male millipede appendages: long delayed, reversible effect of an early localized positional marker?

open access: yesFrontiers in Zoology, 2008
Background The development of specialized appendages involved in sperm transfer in the males of julid millipedes is an extreme case of specialized, complex structures differentiating in a very advanced phase of post-embryonic development.

The role of retinoic acid in embryonic and post-embryonic development [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Nutrition Society, 2000
Retinoic acid (RA) is the bioactive metabolite of vitamin A (retinol) which acts on cells to establish or change the pattern of gene activity. Retinol is converted to RA by the action of two types of enzyme, retinol dehydrogenases and retinal dehydrogenases.

VI. The post-embryonic development of julus terrestris [PDF]

open access: yesPhilosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. (B.), 1888
Abstract In a former paper I traced the development of Julus terrestris from the ovum within the ovary up to the bursting of the shell and the liberation of the young animal on the twelfth day. In the present paper I propose to take the different organs one by one, and to describe their development.

Arabidopsis ZUOTIN RELATED FACTOR1 Proteins Are Required for Proper Embryonic and Post-Embryonic Root Development

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2019
The H2A/UBIQUITIN-binding proteins AtZRF1a/b have been reported as key regulators involved in multiple processes of Arabidopsis plant growth and development.
