Oxidized Carbon Nanoparticles Enhance Cellular Energetics With Application to Injured Brain

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 14, Issue 8, March 25, 2025.
Oxidized carbon nanozymes (OCNs) that catalyze the dismutation of superoxide radical and oxidation of reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH) to NAD+ promote glycolytic and mitochondrial energy metabolism under impaired conditions observed in traumatic brain injury with hemorrhage.

Biocompatibility of Water‐Dispersible Pristine Graphene and Graphene Oxide Using a Close‐to‐Human Animal Model: A Pilot Study on Swine

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 14, Issue 10, April 15, 2025.
Graphene‐based materials are attracting considerable interest for biomedical applications. Analysis of their biocompatibility is required before their clinical translation, and swine represents an excellent close‐to‐human model. This study evaluates the toxicological and immunological impact of pristine graphene and graphene oxide through a compendium ...

Nanozyme‐Shelled Microcapsules for Targeting Biofilm Infections in Confined Spaces

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 14, Issue 8, March 25, 2025.
This study introduces a nanozyme‐microrobotic platform designed to combat bacterial infections within complex, branched confinements. Utilizing magnetic microcapsules shelled with enzyme‐mimicking nanoparticles, the microrobots achieve precise navigation, deliver targeted catalytic action at the infection site, and are fully retrievable.

Interpenetrating Polymer Network Hydrogels with Tunable Viscoelasticity and Proteolytic Cleavability to Direct Stem Cells In Vitro

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 14, Issue 9, April 4, 2025.
A cell‐instructive hydrogel platform is introduced of interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs) containing sulfated glycosaminoglycan (sGAG) and polyethylene glycol cross‐linked through chemical and physical interactions, respectively. The materials allow for the precise systematic modulation of stiffness, viscoelasticity, and proteolytic cleavability ...
