The Value of a Post Hoc Power Analysis

The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery, 2002
To The Editor: I am writing in regard to "Type-II Error Rates (Beta Errors) of Randomized Trials in Orthopaedic Trauma" (2001;83:1650-5), by Lochner et al. This paper addresses a very important issue, namely, that of designing studies that have adequate statistical power to detect clinically meaningful differences.

Overview of Friedman’s Test and Post-hoc Analysis

Communications in Statistics - Simulation and Computation, 2014
When the null hypothesis of Friedman’s test is rejected, there is a wide variety of multiple comparisons that can be used to determine which treatments differ from each other. We will discuss the contexts where different multiple comparisons should be applied, when the population follows some discrete distributions commonly used to model count data in ...

Post hoc analysis: use and dangers in perspective

Journal of Hypertension, 1996
DANGERS AND ADVANTAGES OF POST HOC ANALYSIS: Post hoc analysis is of major importance in the generation of hypotheses. However, the hypothesis is created by the analysis and has not been proved by any "experiment'. In some circumstances the conclusion derived from a post hoc analysis is entirely appropriate.

Methodologic shortcomings inherent in a post-hoc analysis

Current Urology Reports, 2002
Extended-release tolterodine 4 mg has a greater clinical effectiveness than ER Oxy 10 mg, where effectiveness is defined as the optimal combination of efficacy, tolerability, and long-term compliance/persistency.

Post hoc analysis in biometrics.

2015
In this paper we have conducted comparison of four post-hoc tests (LSD, Bonferroni, Scheffe, Tukey), whom have we used on four data sets. Every one of four biometrics sets contained three groups and every group had equal number of observations. Data sets differed in size (n 30) and in the coefficient of variation ( CV < 5% and CV > 20%).

A Note on Post Hoc Analysis of Mastery Test Data

Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1986
This note suggests a post hoc analysis procedure for use with the type of data likely in mastery testing-skewed, non-normal in distribution with a truncated range. It is suggested that various characteristics of the data be examined if analysis using parametric multivariate techniques is conducted.

Post Hoc Power Analysis: An Idea Whose Time Has Passed?

Pharmacotherapy: The Journal of Human Pharmacology and Drug Therapy, 2001
Using a hypothetical scenario typifying the experience that authors have when submitting manuscripts that report results of negative clinical trials, the pitfalls of a post hoc analysis are illustrated. We used the same scenario to explain how confidence intervals are used in interpreting results of clinical trials.

Human Isolated Coronary Artery Contraction To Sumatriptan: A Post Hoc Analysis

Cephalalgia, 1999
A post hoc analysis was performed on concentration response curves to sumatriptan in 62 human isolated coronary arteries. We determined whether donor-related clinical characteristics (age, sex, cause of death) and properties of the coronary artery (functional endothelial integrity, muscle mass) were related to the potency and efficacy of sumatriptan ...
