Cell Mechanisms of Post-Mortem Excitability of Skeletal Muscle

open access: yesBiomedicines
Background/Objectives: The excitability of skeletal muscle is a less-known post-mortem supravital phenomenon in human bodies, and it can be used to estimate the post-mortem interval.

Post Mortem Foraminifera Distribution in Aceh Water Post-tsunami [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The oceanographic research in Nangroe Aceh Darussalam waters post-tsunami was conducted on September 2006. Foraminifera which easily found as element of marine sediment was used as a tool to understand the trace effect of tsunami to marine sediment on ...

APOE‐stratified Proteomic and Metabolomic Analysis Reveals Mitochondrial Dysfunction Inflammation and Lipid Dysregulation in Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A large‐scale multiomic dataset (proteomic and metabolomic) comprising 3,060 plasma samples were analyzed to identify proteins, metabolites, pathways, and protein‐associated drugs linked to Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) independently of apolipoprotein E (APOE). AD was associated with a distinct molecular signature that captures.

Virtopsy post-mortem multi-slice computed tomograhy (MSCT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) demonstrating descending tonsillar herniation: comparison to clinical studies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Descending cerebellar tonsillar herniation is a serious and common complication of intracranial mass lesions. We documented three cases of fatal blunt head injury using post-mortem multi-slice computed tomography (MSCT) and magnetic resonance imaging ...

Engineered GM1 Intersects Between Mitochondrial and Synaptic Pathways to Ameliorate ALS Pathology

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal neurodegenerative disease driven by genetic and molecular disruptions affecting energy balance, protein homeostasis, and stress responses in nerve cells. Studies using human and rodent models identified convergent defects in mitochondria and synaptic function.

Impact from beyond the grave: how to ensure impact growsgreater with the demise of the author [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The impact of a scholar’s work can increase greatly following its author’s death, writes Professor Geoffrey Alderman, who outlines the steps he has taken to ensure the post-mortem impact of his ...

Paving the Way to Elucidate Hg's Role in Tumorigenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Tumorigenesis can result from diverse environmental carcinogens. Among them, mercury—a lifelong bioaccumulative Group 2B carcinogen—has tumorigenic potential that remains poorly understood due to confounding co‐exposures and limited organ‐specific data.

Ultrasound Modulation of Visual Circuits in Mice Independent of Auditory Confound

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study, Qiu et al. found that low‐intensity ultrasound can directly activate sparse ultrasound‐sensitive neurons (UNs) in the primary visual cortex (V1) of deafened mice. The proportion of these sparse UNs is pressure‐dependent. Furthermore, ultrasound modulates visual circuitry with distinct excitatory and inhibitory effects.

Gram‐Scale Synthesis of Hafnium‐Rich Carbon Dots for Preclinical Computed Tomography Imaging Across Various Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Hafnium (Hf)‐rich carbon dots (Hf‐rCDs) with high metal content (40.7%) and robust batch production capacity (>2 g per batch) are synthesized via a facile air‐assisted pyrolysis method. In vivo CT imaging demonstrates outstanding performance of Hf‐rCDs across multiple physiological systems and enables high‐resolution visualization of swine cervical ...
