Parametric finite-element studies on the effect of tool shape in friction stir welding

open access: yes, 2010
The success of the Friction Stir Welding (FSW) process, and the weld quality produced, depends significantly on the design of the welding tool. In this paper the effect of variation in various tool geometry parameters on FSW process outcomes, during the ...

Liquid Crystal Elastomers Filaments for Adaptive Textiles and Soft Robotics: A Processing‐Centric Review

open access: yesMacromolecular Rapid Communications, EarlyView.
Liquid crystal elastomer (LCE) filaments are fabricated through extrusion with in‐process UV curing, enabling controlled flow alignment and network locking of mesogens. The resulting structure responds to thermal or optical stimuli, inducing molecular reorientation and macroscopic contraction.

Evaluation of post-weld heat treatments applied to FeCrAl alloy weldments

open access: yesJournal of Nuclear Materials, 2019
Abstract The nuclear incident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant has created a strong push for accident-tolerant fuel cladding to replace current zirconium-based cladding. A current near-term focus on iron-chromium-aluminum (FeCrAl) alloys. Laser-welded FeCrAl samples (C35MN, C37M, and C35M10 TC) were subjected to three different post-weld ...

Crystallinity, Porosity, and Microstructure of Polyphenylene Sulfide Composite Parts Fabricated by Filament‐Extrusion Additive Manufacturing

open access: yesPolymer Composites, EarlyView.
High‐performance PPS composites for FFF: formulation and characterization linking microstructure and crystallization to adhesion and mechanical properties. ABSTRACT Polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) was compounded with recycled carbon fibers (rCF) and thermal black (TB) particles, followed by injection molding (IM) and extrusion of the compounded composites ...

Behavior of a Novel Cyclic Olefin‐Based Hot‐Melt Adhesive in CFRP Adhesive Joints Compared to Conventional Epoxy‐Based Structural Adhesives

open access: yesPolymer Composites, EarlyView.
Rate‐dependent performance of composite adhesive joints using thermoset and thermoplastic adhesives, in terms of toughness and fatigue behaviour. ABSTRACT A recently developed hot‐melt adhesive (HMA) based on cyclic olefin chemistry, supplied as a transparent, non‐tacky thermoplastic film with a distinctive polymer microstructure, was evaluated in this

Investigations on mechanical behavior of AA2014-T6 weldments developed using CMT welding: As-weld and post weld heat treatment conditions

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
This research work aims to investigate the tensile properties, micro-hardness and microstructural changes of AA2014-T6 cold metal transfer (CMT) weldments in as-weld and post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) conditions.

Effect of welding thermal cycles on the heat affected zone microstructure and toughness of multi-pass welded pipeline steels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This research is aimed at understanding the effect of thermal cycles on the metallurgical and microstructural characteristics of the heat affected zone of a multi-pass pipeline weld. Continuous Cooling Transformation (CCT) diagrams of the pipeline steel
