High‐Flow Nasal Cannula Versus Conventional Oxygen Therapy in Patients Undergoing Thoracic Surgery: A Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesThoracic Cancer, Volume 17, Issue 4, February 2026.
Short‐term perioperative high‐flow nasal cannula (HFNC) oxygen therapy, applied during anesthetic induction and for 30 min post‐extubation, did not significantly reduce postoperative pulmonary complications compared to conventional oxygen therapy in patients undergoing elective thoracic lung resection surgery.

Safety and Efficacy of Remimazolam for General Anesthesia in Elderly Patients Undergoing Transurethral Surgery

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 9, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Remimazolam, a novel benzodiazepine, acts on the GABA receptor and is widely used for procedural sedation. To date, there are relatively few articles comparing remimazolam to propofol for general anesthesia in elderly urology patients.

Opioid Consumption After Laparoscopic Radical Nephrectomy in Early Postoperative Recovery Phase: A Retrospective Cohort Study

open access: yesActa Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica, Volume 70, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Laparoscopic radical nephrectomy is a relatively common surgical procedure in the treatment of renal cancer and kidney anomalies. Postoperative pain is a major challenge among these patients. Although alternate solutions to conduct analgesia have been researched lately, the pain management of nephrectomy patients still relies on ...

Long‐term outcomes of stereotactic radiofrequency ablation in hypothalamic hamartomas: A single‐center experience

open access: yesEpilepsia, Volume 67, Issue 1, Page 96-108, January 2026.
Abstract Objective Hypothalamic hamartomas (HHs) lead to refractory epilepsy, and minimally invasive surgical approaches are standard of care for affected patients. Stereotactic radiofrequency thermocoagulation (SRT) is one of the treatment methods recognized to achieve seizure freedom. This study reports surgical outcome from a single center reporting

Lung Volume Change Under Apnoeic Oxygenation With Different Flow Rates in Children: A Single‐Centre Prospective Randomized Controlled Non‐Inferiority Trial

open access: yesPediatric Anesthesia, Volume 36, Issue 1, Page 36-42, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Background High‐flow oxygen in children prolongs the apnea time. The exact mechanism remains unclear. Aims This study investigated whether low‐ and high‐flow nasal oxygen are non‐inferior to very high‐flow oxygen in preventing lung volume loss during apnoea in children under general anesthesia. We also examined whether early onset oxygen using

Comparative Study of the Effect of Continuous Caudal Epidural With General Anesthesia Versus General Anesthesia on Intraoperative and Postoperative Analgesic Requirements for Lumbar Fixation

open access: yesAnesthesiology Research and Practice, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Study design The study was an interventional, randomized, prospective comparative clinical trial on 60 patients scheduled for lumbar fixation surgery. Study aim The study goal was to justify the effectiveness of combined continuous caudal epidural with general anesthesia compared to general anesthesia alone as analgesia for lumbar fixation patients ...

Feasibility of Using Deep Learning to Detect Hypoxemia During Painless Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Based on Facial Images

open access: yesAnesthesiology Research and Practice, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Objective To develop and validate deep learning (DL) and machine learning (ML) models based on preoperative facial images and structured clinical data for predicting hypoxemia during adult painless gastrointestinal endoscopy, addressing the limitations of subjective and data‐intensive prediction methods. Methods A total of 424 patients aged 18–80 years

The Effects of Sevoflurane Versus Total Intravenous Anesthesia on Emergence Agitation After Interventional Neuroradiology: A Prospective Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesAnesthesiology Research and Practice, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Background Interventional neuroradiology (INR) is a minimally invasive procedure that is often performed under general anesthesia. A potential complication, emergence agitation (EA), can hinder immediate and accurate postoperative neurological assessments. Sevoflurane and propofol are common anesthetics used for these procedures.

The Impact of Anesthesia and Positioning on Cerebral Blood Flow and Pressure in Patients Undergoing Laparoscopic Surgery: An Observational Study

open access: yesAnesthesiology Research and Practice, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Background Laparoscopic surgery involves the use of general anesthesia, pneumoperitoneum with carbon dioxide, and specific positioning, which affect brain metabolic demands, vascular autoregulation, intra‐abdominal pressure elevation, and hypercapnia, as well as alterations in cerebral blood flow and intracranial pressure (ICP).
