Posterior Vitreous Detachment

Retina, 2012
Posterior vitreous detachment is the commonest and most important event that occurs in the vitreous. As the vitreous ages, the normal architectural features apparent in childhood gradually disappear as degeneration causes syneresis, lacuna (cavity) formation and collapse of the vitreous gel.

Posterior Vitreous Detachment

2016
Posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) is a separation between the internal limiting membrane (ILM) of the retina and the posterior vitreous cortex. It is usually spontaneous and age related but may also be associated with trauma.

Complications of Acute Posterior Vitreous Detachment

Ophthalmology, 2022
To evaluate the risk factors for retinal tear (RT) or rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) associated with acute, symptomatic posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) in a large comprehensive eye care setting.Retrospective cohort study.A total of 8305 adult patients in the Kaiser Permanente Northern California Healthcare System (KPNC) during calendar ...

POSTERIOR VITREOUS DETACHMENT WITH DISPASE

Retina, 1998
To induce a posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) in porcine and human cadaver eyes in vitro with Dispase (Gibco, Grand Island, NY).Dispase (0.5 mL) was injected into the vitreous cavity of enucleated porcine (0.05-25 U/mL) and human (5 U/mL) eyes. After incubation at 37 degrees C for 15-120 minutes, the globes were hemisected and the extent of PVD was ...

Posterior Vitreous Detachment: Clinical Correlations

Ophthalmologica, 2004
Background: To evaluate the frequency of, and the factors which are primarily and secondarily associated with, posterior vitreous detachment (PVD), and to correlate the presence of PVD with various demographic and ophthalmic entities.

Relationship between vitreous temperature and posterior vitreous detachment

Journal of the Mechanical Behavior of Biomedical Materials, 2013
The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between vitreous temperature and posterior vitreous detachment (PVD). 30 porcine eyes were hemisected to form eyecups. In 10 eyes, the vitreous was warmed to 37 ± 1°C for 1 min and cooled down to room temperature.

Posterior Vitreous Detachment in Diabetic Subjects

Ophthalmology, 1980
Posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) and vitreous synchysis were studied in autopsied diabetic subjects and compared with general autopsy population. PVD was significantly more common in diabetics, including eyes with no retinopathy. Synchysis in diabetics increased with age and with PVD, but was less than in non-diabetics for given age and PVD status ...

Retinal Hemorrhages in Posterior Vitreous Detachment

American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1975
Detachment of the posterior vitreous can cause clinically significant retinal hemorrhage. Two patients with acute posterior vitreous detachment had massive retinal hemorrhages overlying the optic disks. These absorbed in time without sequealae. A third patient had numerous small blot hemorrhages scattered near the optic disk and macula.

Molecular mechanisms of posterior vitreous detachment

Graefe's Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology, 1993
To determine a molecular mechanism for posterior vitreous detachment and contraction of vitreous gel, the effects of serum components on bovine vitreous were systematically studied. Incubation of vitreous gel with calf serum caused a contraction of the gel accompanied by the release of a waterlike liquid.

Posterior vitreous detachment.

Journal of the American Optometric Association, 1981
Symptoms of floaters and light flashes are a common reason patients seek eye care. Posterior vitreous detachment is a frequent cause of these symptoms and is usually benign. However, a posterior vitreous detachment in combination with other retinal anomalies can indicate potentially damaging visual changes.
