Microbiology and postmortem interval: a systematic review. [PDF]
AbstractThis systematic review aims to learn if and how it is possible to use the human microbiome to indicate the time elapsed after death. Articles were searched on the PubMed database using predefined data fields and keywords; reviews, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses were excluded. The final selection included 14 papers (out of 144).

Succession of oral microbiota community as a tool to estimate postmortem interval
The establishment of postmortem interval is one of the most important aspects of forensic expertise. Microbes may provide a novel way to estimate the postmortem intervals in order to avoid many of these limitations.

Preliminary soilwater conductivity analysis to date clandestine burials of homicide victims [PDF]
This study reports on a new geoscientific method to estimate the post-burial interval (PBI) and potential post-mortem interval (PMI) date of homicide victims in clandestine graves by measuring decomposition fluid conductivities.

Postmortem Changes in Animal Carcasses and Estimation of the Postmortem Interval [PDF]
A thorough understanding of the physical and chemical changes that occur in the body after death is critical for accurate interpretation of gross and microscopic pathology at autopsy. Furthermore, knowledge of the postmortem processes and the factors that affect them will aid in the estimation of the postmortem interval (PMI). The estimation of the PMI

A preliminary examination of differential decomposition patterns in mass graves [PDF]
This study represents a preliminary, quantitative approach to the examination of differential decomposition patterns in mass graves. Five pairs of mass graves, each containing the carcasses of 21 rabbits, were used to examine decomposition rates at four ...

A Machine Learning Approach for Using the Postmortem Skin Microbiome to Estimate the Postmortem Interval. [PDF]
Research on the human microbiome, the microbiota that live in, on, and around the human person, has revolutionized our understanding of the complex interactions between microbial life and human health and disease.

An Entomological Model for Estimating the Post-Mortem Interval
Identification of post-mortem interval started from the time when the dead body was found. The main question is to identify the time of death. In reality, the task is complicated since many local factors are involved in the process of decomposition.

Model of host-pathogen Interaction dynamics links In vivo optical imaging and immune responses [PDF]
Tracking disease progression in vivo is essential for the development of treatments against bacterial infection. Optical imaging has become a central tool for in vivo tracking of bacterial population development and therapeutic response.

Human Skin, Oral, and Gut Microbiomes Predict Chronological Age. [PDF]
Human gut microbiomes are known to change with age, yet the relative value of human microbiomes across the body as predictors of age, and prediction robustness across populations is unknown. In this study, we tested the ability of the oral, gut, and skin
