Endoplasmic Reticulum Geometry Dictates Neuronal Bursting via Calcium Store Refill Rates and Exposes Selective Neuronal Vulnerability

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The ER's continuous tubular network is maintained by ER‐shaping proteins whose mutation or dysregulation contributes to neurodegenerative diseases. Here, we show that ER morphology sets the speed of Ca2+ store replenishment between firing events. Disrupting ER continuity slows intra‐ER Ca2+ redistribution from extracellular refill (SOCE) sites, driving

Printable Conductive Hydrogels for Electrochemical Biosensing and Soft Bioelectronic Interfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Flexible, conductive hydrogels that integrate printability, mechanical tunability, biocompatibility, and electronic performance remain challenging to achieve. Here, we develop 3D‐printable poly(ethylene glycol)–poly(pyrrole)‐ hydrogels with tissue‐like mechanics, high cytocompatibility, and robust electrochemical function.

Pharmacological studies on acetylcholine and other transmitter receptors from invertebrate muscle and central neurones

open access: yes, 1988
Muscle tension recordings were made from earthworm body wall muscle and the action of acetylcholine, cholinomimtics and cholinolytics examined. The effect of cholinergic agents on muscle twitches induced following field stimulation was also investigated.

Formulation, Bioavailability, and Pharmacokinetics of Sustained-Release Potassium Chloride Tablets

open access: yes, 1991
The release of potassium chloride incorporated into hydrogenated vegetable oil and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose matrix tablets was studied in vitro. The formulations containing 20% hydrogenated vegetable oil and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose showed a ...

Carboranyl‐Curcuminoids for the Neutron Capture‐Based Treatment of Amyloid Aggregates in Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The 10B‐enriched monocarbonyl analog of curcumin (BMAC) 10B‐9 enables site‐specific Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) on amyloid‐β (Aβ) fibrils. Neutron irradiation induces histidine oxidation and fibril destabilization, as revealed by 1H‐NMR and FESEM analyses.

Ultrasound‐Activated Bifunctional Piezoelectric Hydrogel Dressings Promote Infected Wound Healing via Regulating Angiogenesis and Lymphangiogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study developed a double‐network hydrogel with piezoelectric properties, exhibiting excellent antibacterial activity and promoting fibroblast migration, angiogenesis, and lymphangiogenesis through piezoelectric stimulation, thereby accelerating the healing of infected chronic wounds.

Stimulation of distal potassium secretion by low lumen chloride in the presence of barium

open access: yes, 1985
Potassium secretion into the renal distal tubule is increased when chloride in the tubule fluid is replaced by another anion. The present experiments were done to determine whether this increment in transported potassium traverses a conductive pathway ...

Targeting Supramolecular Active Complexes of Nav1.7/Nav1.8 to Relieve Chronic Neuropathic Pain

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In mice and patients with severe chronic neuropathic pain (NP), Nav1.7, Nav1.8, TrkB, and five cytoskeletal proteins form supramolecular active complexes (SMACs) with polygonal lattice structures as noxious signal amplifiers in dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons.
