Analysis of operating variables for Yerba mate leaves supercritical carbon dioxide extraction [PDF]

open access: yesChemical Industry and Chemical Engineering Quarterly, 2018
Given the increasing demand for potassium in Brazil, the mining and use of carnallite is becoming increasingly important, because the current source of potassium, sylvinite, is being depleted and there is a risk of shortages.

Ionic Precursors Transformed Into Vinyl Acetate Synthesis Catalyst via Reaction‐Driven Restructuring

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that a simple physical mixture of Pd and Au ionic precursors, KOAc promoter, and SiO2 support can transform into a highly active vinyl acetate synthesis catalyst through reaction‐driven restructuring. The results highlight reaction‐induced restructuring as an innovative and sustainable catalyst design strategy.

Quick-clay landslide mitigation using potassium chloride [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Highly sensitive postglacial marine clays, termed quick clays, represent a risk for large retrogressive or progressive landslides such as the well-documented Rissa quick-clay landslide in 1978.

Polarization Sensitivity of Chiral Manganese Halide Scintillators Enables High‐Resolution X‐Ray Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Highly luminescent chiral manganese halide crystals are synthesized using chiral ligands, and they exhibit dissymmetry factors up to 1.4 × 10−2 and show X‐ray detection scintillation capability with a light yield of 43 380 photons/MeV and a low detection limit of 0.05198 µGyair·s−1.

EFFECT OF ORGANIC AND INORGANIC SALTS ON MYCELIAL GROWTH, SPORULATION AND SPORE GERMINATION OF POTATO POSTHARVEST PATHOGENS [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Plant Protection and Pathology, 2012
Ten organic and inorganic salts were tested for suppression of Fusarium solani, a causal agent of potato dry rot, and silver scurf, a postharvest disease of potato tubers caused by Helminthosporium solani.

Halide Perovskite Integrated Photovoltaic Cathodes Incorporating Pt on ZIF‐8‐Derived Carbon for Solar Hydrogen Production

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A low‐Pt catalyst supported on zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF‐8)‐derived porous carbon and graphite is integrated with a halide perovskite photovoltaic, yielding cathodes that achieve a high photocurrent density (∼20 mA cm−2) under simulated sunlight and exhibit remarkable stability in acidic media over several days, thereby demonstrating a ...

Crystallization and separation of KCl from carnallite ore: Process development, simulation, and economic feasibility [PDF]

open access: yesChemical Industry and Chemical Engineering Quarterly, 2018
Given an increasing demand for potassium in Brazil, the mining and use of carnallite is becoming increasingly important, because the current source of potassium (sylvinite) is being depleted and there is a risk of shortages. Based on theoretical

Bioprinting High‐Cell‐Density Cardiac Tissue Constructs With Sustained Contractile Function

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Contractile cardiomyocytes in 3D culture provide insights into the behavior of the heart. Combining a 3D bioprinting approach with a multi‐electrode array allows the development of the 3D culture to be monitored over time, and matured cultures allow the effect of drugs on cardiac function to be modelled, replicating effects seen in clinical application.
