New Anticandidous 2-Alkylthio-6-aminobenzothiazoles

open access: yesMolecules, 1997
The synthesis and antimicrobial activity of six new 2-alkenyl-6-aminobenzothiazoles are reported. The new compounds were prepared by alkenylation of the potassium salt of 6-amino-2-mercaptobenzothiazole with alkenyl bromides.

Photo-controlled permeation of spiropyran modified gramicidin A ion channel [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Thesis (M.S.) University of Alaska Fairbanks, 2006Biomimetic devices show great potential as being molecular sensors of biological species. Gramicidin A (gA) is a well studied ionophore that can be easily modified at the C-terminus to be incorporated ...

Sustainable Catalyst‐Free PLG Networks: Recyclability, Biodegradability, and Functional Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A catalyst‐additive free covalent adaptable network is developed from star‐shaped poly(lactide‐co‐glycolide) cross‐linked with pyromellitic dianhydride, enabling internal carboxylic acid‐driven transesterification. The resulting biodegradable network exhibits mechanical robustness (Young's modulus ≈1.6 GPa), complete recyclability, rapid biodegradation

Scalable Polyelectrolyte Complex‐Based Sorbent With Hourly Sorption−Desorption Cycles for Multicyclic Atmospheric Water Harvesting in Arid Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A polyelectrolyte complex‐based sorbent is produced by scalable, environmentally benign aqueous phase inversion. Its porous, LiCl‐ and GO‐integrated architecture enables hourly adsorption−desorption cycles at low relative humidity (RH < 30%). A large‐scale prototype achieves multicyclic, solar‐driven atmospheric water harvesting of 1.37 L kg−1 day−1 ...

Bioinspired Stabilization of Fluorescent Au@SiO2 Tracers for Multimodal Biological Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates a bioinspired stabilization strategy for fluorescent gold‐silica nanoparticles. Inspired by natural biosilica maturation, high‐temperature calcination transforms the silica shells, preventing dissolution in cell culture media and intracellular environments.

Synthesis and In Vitro Antimicrobial, Anthelmintic and Insecticidal Activities Study of 4(4'-Bromophenyl)-6-substituted-aryl-1-acetyl pyrimidine-2-thiols

open access: yesE-Journal of Chemistry, 2010
A new series of 4(4'-bromophenyl)-6-substituted aryl-1-acetyl pyrimidine-2-thiol derivatives were synthesized by heating chalcones with thiourea, in the presence of ethanolic potassium hydroxide, followed by treatment with acetyl chloride.

Nucleation‐Controlled Reconstruction of CuOx for Selective CO2 Electroreduction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The ratio of oxygen vacancies (Ov) and exposed Cu2O (111)/(200) of CuOx precatalyst is modulated by nucleation control of Cu(OH)2 precursor. Low Ov ratio and high ratio of Cu2O (111)/(200) in slow‐nucleated CuOx reconstructs to high‐coordinated oxide‐derived copper (OD‐Cu) during electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) and exhibits enhanced ...

Color Routing and Beam Steering of Single‐Molecule Emission with a Spherical Silicon Nanoantenna

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We experimentally demonstrate broadband directional emission from single molecules using a single spherical silicon nanoparticle assembled via DNA origami. By varying nanoparticle (NP) size and emitter position, we achieve unidirectional emission, beam steering, and color routing at the nanoscale, revealing modal interference as the underlying ...

Potassium Hydroxide Extraction of Polyphenols from Olive Leaves: Effect on Color and Acrylamide Formation in Black Ripe Olives

open access: yesFoods
Olive leaves are generated in large quantities in olive oil and table olive factories. This waste is currently used for multiple purposes, one of them being the extraction of bioactive substances, in particular phenolic compounds.
