7. Counting infinity

open access: yes, 2017
‘Counting infinity’ returns to the mathematics of infinity, discussing Cantor’s remarkable theory of how to count infinite sets, and the discovery that there are different sizes of infinity.

Symbolic Regression and Multi‐Objective Optimization of the Flory–Huggins Interaction Parameter for Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We develop a data‐driven method to derive the mathematical expressions of the Flory–Huggins interaction parameter χ for the swelling behavior of temperature–responsive hydrogels. Starting from initial assumptions of χ, our workflow combines Bayesian optimization, Flory–Rehner theory, and symbolic regression to generate candidate χ expressions.

Quantum wormholes at spatial infinity

open access: yesPhysics Letters B
We derive the interesting result that the two asymptotically flat Universes classically linked by the Einstein-Rosen bridge may also be quantum mechanically connected in their far out regions. This would be felt by the Newtonian potential far away from a

Bound states of nonlinear Schrödinger equations with potentials vanishing at infinity

open access: yesJournal d'Analyse Mathématique, 2005
We deal with a class on nonlinear Schrödinger equations (NLS) with potentials V(x)\sim |x|^{-\alpha} , 0<\alpha<2 , and K(x)\sim |x|^{-\beta ...

Microstructure Evolution of a VMnFeCoNi High‐Entropy Alloy After Synthesis, Swaging, and Annealing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The synthesis and processing (rotary swaging and annealing) of the novel VMnFeCoNi alloy is investigated, alongside the estimation of the grain size effect on hardness. Analysis of a wide grain size range of recrystallized microstructures (12–210 µm) reveals a low annealing twin density.

The Existence of Least Energy Sign-Changing Solution for Kirchhoff-Type Problem with Potential Vanishing at Infinity

open access: yesAdvances in Mathematical Physics, 2021
In this paper, we study the Kirchhoff-type equation: −a+b∫ℝ3  ∇u2dxΔu+Vxu=Qxfu,in ℝ3, where a, b>0, f∈C1ℝ3,ℝ, and V,Q∈C1ℝ3,ℝ+. Vx and Qx are vanishing at infinity.

On the behavior at infinity of logarithmic potentials

open access: yesJournal of the Mathematical Society of Japan, 1984
Let F be a closed set in \(R^ 2\). A positive measure \(\mu\) supported by F with total mass 1 is called the equilibrium measure on F when the logarithmic potential of \(\mu\) is constant on F except for a set with logarithmic capacity zero. It has been shown by \textit{N. Ninomiya} [Osaka J. Math.

From Shear to Sound: Mechanics–Acoustics Mapping of TPMS Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) lattices are mapped across mechanical and acoustic performance, revealing that descriptors validated in compression fail under shear. First‐time comparison with trusses included. A transition from porous to resonance‐driven absorption emerges at 25% density.

Comparative analysis of VMAT plans on Halcyon and infinity for lung cancer radiotherapy.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
Objective The dosimetric characteristics and treatment efficiency of VMAT plans using two linear accelerator platforms, Halcyon and Infinity, in conventional radiotherapy for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) are compared to provide data for selecting ...
