Economic Implications of Potential ENSO Frequency and Strength Shifts

Climatic Change, 2001
Some argue that global climate change may alter the frequency and strength of extreme events. This paper examines the economic damages in the agricultural sector arising from a shift in El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) event frequency and strength.

POTENTIAL PROGNOSTIC VALUE OF HANDGRIP STRENGTH IN OLDER HOSPITALIZED PATIENTS

Journal of Frailty & Aging, 2012
Objective measures of physical function are useful prognostic tools also for hospitalized elders. Low handgrip strength is predictive of poor outcomes and it can be assessed also in a sitting position, representing a potential alternative measure in bedridden patients. We evaluated grip strength prognostic value in hospitalized older patients.

The nonrelativistic oscillator strength of a hyperbolic-type potential

Chinese Physics B, 2013
We consider the D-dimensional Schrodinger equation under the hyperbolic potential V0(1 − coth(αr)) + V1(1 − coth(αr))2. Using a Pekeris-type approximation, the approximate analytical solutions of the problem are obtained via the supersymmetric quantum mechanics.

Potentialities for sapphire strength enhancement

2018
The study results are presented concerning the influence of technological factors, such as annealing atmosphere and mechanical treatment, on the sapphire strength. The ultimate strength under four-point flexure has been determiden according to European standard EN 843-1:1995 using the four-point-1/4-point flexure scheme. The heigh-temperature annealing

Bond Strength and Potential Energy Relationships in Acetylene

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1940
The spectroscopic value for the heat of formation of free CH and Herzberg's value for the heat of sublimation of graphite lead to a value of ∼137.9 kcal. for the C≡C bond strength in acetylene. This value is employed in a study of the potential energy levels of that compound and is shown to be the only one consistent with the most recent studies of its

Black Fighting Formations: Their Strengths, Weaknesses and Potentialities

New Political Science, 1999
Abstract Clausewitz observed that “war is an extension of politics.” This paper argues that a fatal flaw among Black political organizations—with certain exceptions—has been their failure to adequately prepare for warfare in the service of self-defense and revolutionary struggles.

Potential Slip Surfaces of Slope with Strength Parameters

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
The cohesion c and friction angle φ are the main strength parameters influencing the stability of slope. Any of them changes, the factor of safety of slope will change, but it has seldom been considered in the literature how the potential slip surface will change at the same time.

Potential energy curves and bond strength of Aube

Journal of Quantitative Spectroscopy and Radiative Transfer, 1970
Abstract The potential-energy curves for Au-Be interactions, corresponding to the X2Σ+, A2Σ+ and BΠ 1 2 states of AuBe, have been computed by the Rydberg-Klein-Rees-Vanderslice (RKRV) method. The ground state dissociation energy has been estimated by fitting the Lippincott three-parameter potential functions to the RKRV curves. The dissociation

The strength of the tensor interaction in the deuteron optical potential

Nuclear Physics A, 1970
Abstract The strength of the quadratic (L · S) tensor interaction in the deuteron optical potential arising from the spin-orbit interaction in the nucleon-nucleus potential is estimated. It is found that the strength is considerable weaker and of opposite sign to the phenomenological tensor potential obtained from the optical-model analysis of ...

Experimental bounds on the coupling strength of torsion potentials

Physical Review D, 1980
We examine the experimental implications of a recent suggestion by Kaempffer that the coupling strength G' for a propagating torsion potential need not be the same as the Newtonian gravitational coupling strength G. We allow the torsion potential to transform either as a six-tensor, or as a pseudoscalar.
