The critical-state yield stress (termination locus) of adhesive powders from a single numerical experiment [PDF]
Dry granular materials in a split-bottom ring shear cell geometry show wide shear bands under slow, quasi-static, large deformation. This system is studied in the presence of contact adhesion, using the discrete element method (DEM).

Impact of Iron Contamination on Liquid Properties and Microstructural Evolution in AlSi20
Recycled aluminum is much more energy conservative and sustainable than primary aluminum. However, the iron contamination in secondary aluminum is vastly responsible for the degradation of the material properties. Herein, it is aimed to evaluate the influence of iron contamination in hypereutectic Al–Si alloy through thermodynamic as well as ...

Froth flotation predominantly separates particles according to their differences in wettability. However, other particle properties such as size, shape or density significantly influence the separation outcome as well.

Al–Si alloys are particularly in demand for automotive and electronic applications, thanks to their excellent wear and thermal properties. Nevertheless, when processed by conventional methods with low cooling rates, the coarse primary Si phases are responsible for increasing brittleness and inducing crack propagation.

Size and Shape Selective Classification of Nanoparticles
As nanoparticle syntheses on a large scale usually yield products with broad size and shape distributions, the properties of nanoparticle-based products need to be tuned after synthesis by narrowing the size and shape distributions or via the removal of ...

Advances in Thermal Modeling of Selective Laser Sintering of Metal Powders [PDF]
Selective laser sintering (SLS) of single component metal powders is a rapid prototyping technology in which a high-energy laser beam scans, melts, shrinks and consolidates metal powders with single component. For better understanding physical mechanisms during laser sintering of single-component metal particles, a temperature transforming model with ...

A Different Perspective on the Solid Lubrication Performance of Black Phosphorous: Friend or Foe?
Researchers investigate black phosphorous (BP) as a standalone solid lubricant coating through ball‐on‐disc linear‐reciprocating sliding experiments in dry conditions. Testing on different metals shows BP doesn't universally reduce friction and wear. However, it achieves 33% friction reduction on rougher iron surfaces and 23% wear reduction on aluminum.

This study explores a process chain to produce dispersoid‐strengthened CuCr1Zr for applications requiring high strength and conductivity. Using gas‐atomized powder and copper‐plated alumina nanoparticles, additive manufacturing is performed via powder bed based additive manufacturing with green and red lasers, followed by heat treatment.
