Characterization of ceramic powders by an X-ray measuring method [PDF]

open access: yes
X-ray line broadening analysis gives quantitative data on structural changes of ceramic powders after different processing steps. Various Al2O3 powders were investigated and the following points are discussed on the basis of these results: X-ray line ...

The reflection of very cold neutrons from diamond powder nanoparticles

open access: yes, 2008
We study possibility of efficient reflection of very cold neutrons (VCN) from powders of nanoparticles. In particular, we measured the scattering of VCN at a powder of diamond nanoparticles as a function of powder sample thickness, neutron velocity and ...

Enhancing Corrosion Resistance and Mechanical Strength of 3D‐Printed Iron Polylactic Acid for Marine Applications via Laser Surface Texturing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser surface texturing significantly improves the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of 3D‐printed iron polylactic acid (Ir‐PLA) for marine applications. Optimal laser parameters reduce corrosion by 80% and enhance tensile strength by 25% and ductility by 15%.

Combined thermal and particle shape effects on powder spreading in additive manufacturing via discrete element simulations [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
The thermal and mechanical behaviors of powders are important for various additive manufacturing technologies. For powder bed fusion, capturing the temperature profile and the packing structure of the powders prior to melting is challenging due to both the various pathways of heat transfer and the complicated properties of powder system.

Chemical reactions of metal powders with organic and inorganic liquids during ball milling [PDF]

open access: yes
Chromium and/or nickel powders were milled in metal chlorides and in organic liquids representative of various functional groups. The powders always reacted with the liquid and became contaminated with elements from them.

High‐Rate Deposition and Characterization Study of CoZrO Films for On‐Chip Power Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a high‐rate reactive sputtering process for CoZrO films, aimed at large‐scale production of on‐chip magnetic components compatible with complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) fabrication. Characterization of the deposited films reveals that ideal magnetic properties require chemical compositions in a narrow Co:O range and ...

Multidimensional In Situ Characterization of Surface and Free Nanobubbles in Oxidic Nanofluids

open access: yesPowders
The efficiency of froth flotation drastically drops towards ultrafine particles. Some improvements may be possible using smaller bubbles and high degrees of turbulence, however, reaching their limits in the nanometer particle range.
