Apple cultivars resistant to scab (Venturia inaequalis (Cke) Aderh.) Part I. Pomological evaluation of apple cultivars

open access: yesActa Agrobotanica, 2013
Sixteen apple cultivars and numbered selections resistant to apple scab were investigated in the years 1982-1986. The investigations concerned the following questions: vigour of growth, flowering, season of ripening, evaluation of fruits and their ...

Incorporation of Selenium into Sol–Gel‐Derived Bioactive Glass: Influence on Glass Structure, Bioactivity, and its Selective Cytotoxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Selenium was incorporated into a sol–gel‐derived bioactive glass to enable sustained therapeutic ion release. The selenium‐containing glass preserved bioactivity while selectively inducing cytotoxicity in osteosarcoma cells and maintaining osteoblastic viability.

The effect of irrigation on powdery scab and other tuber diseases of potatoes

open access: yesAnnals of Applied Biology, 1987
SUMMARYIn field experiments seed tubers affected with powdery scab cankers were planted and the effect on disease incidence of timing of irrigation and some seed‐tuber fungicides was investigated over 3 yr. For 2 yr, irrigation to maintain soil wetter than—20 centibars (—20 kPa) during the first half of the growing season increased disease compared to ...

Resistance to Multiple Tuber Diseases Expressed in Somaclonal Variants of the Potato Cultivar Russet Burbank

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2014
Multiple disease resistance is an aim of many plant breeding programs. Previously, novel somatic cell selection was used to generate potato variants of “Russet Burbank” with resistance to common scab caused by infection with an actinomycete pathogen ...

Numerical Modeling of Tank Cars Carrying Hazardous Materials With and Without Composite Metal Foam

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Large‐scale puncture models consisting of hazardous materials (HAZMATs) tank car with protective steel–steel composite metal foam (S–S CMF) are solved numerically. Tank car plate with added 10.91–13.33 mm thick S–S CMF layer does not puncture. Protective S–S CMF absorbs impact energy, reduces plate deformation, and prevents shear bands formation ...

Мониторинг на фунгицидната употреба срещу брашнестата мана и струпясването по ябълките в непазарни стопанства в Софийското поле

open access: yesПочвознание, агрохимия и екология, 2014
The most important diseases on apple, reducing the yields from the orchards and aggravating its quality, are apple scab (Venturia inaequalis) and powdery mildew (Podosphaera leucotricha).

Impact of Pre‐Oxidation Treatments on a Recycled MgO/Steel‐Composite as Carbon Free Anode in Aluminum‐Electrolysis Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Cermets (60 vol.% AISI 316L stainless steel, 40 vol.% recycled MgO), intended for use in aluminum electrolysis, were pre‐oxidized in three furnaces with different heating technologies and subjected to a cryolite corrosion test. The different atmospheres influenced the formation of oxide layers, which in turn affected corrosion resistance and ...
