Sedimentation of a circular disk in power law fluids
Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2006The continuity and momentum equations have been solved numerically for the two-dimensional steady flow of power law fluids over a thin circular disk oriented normal to the direction of flow. Extensive results on the individual and total drag coefficients are obtained as functions of the power law flow behavior index (0.4 < or = n < or = 1.0), Reynolds ...

Stretching a Surface in a Rotating Power‐Law Fluid
ZAMM - Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics / Zeitschrift für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik, 1995The authors consider the steady flow of an incompressible power-law fluid past a horizontal stretching plate that rotates around a vertical axis. The equations are formulated for the velocity and the stress tensor. Assuming the boundary layer approximation from [the authors, Z. Angew. Math. Mech. 75, No.

Solution of Unsteady Flow of Power Law Fluids
AIAA Journal, 1972The experimental results have verified the linear behavior of the intensity of Raman scattered light as a function of specie concentration. It can be concluded that the technique is capable of identifying and measuring concentrations of individual gaseous species in a mixture during a single 10-nanosec sampling time.

Alternatives to the Power-Law Fluid Model for Crosslinked Fluids
Society of Petroleum Engineers Journal, 1985AbstractMeasuring the rheological properties of crosslinked fracturing fluids is difficult but important. Fluid properties play a key role in the determination of the final geometry of die created fracture and in the distribution of proppant within the fracture; therefore, an accurate knowledge of these parameters is necessary for optimum treatment ...

Nonlinear Analysis: Theory, Methods & Applications, 1985
The paper is concerned with initial boundary value problems for the scalar equation \(u_ t(x,t)+A(u)(x,t)=v(t)\phi (x)\) in \(\Omega\) x(0,T)\(\subset {\mathbb{R}}^ 4,\) where \(A(w)=-\nabla \cdot (| \nabla w|^{p-2}\cdot \nabla w)\), \(\phi\) is given, and v is an L 2-control that is sought to minimize \[ J(v)=\int_{\Omega}| u(\cdot,T)- z(\cdot)| \quad

Entrance effects for power‐law fluid
Polymer Engineering & Science, 1994AbstractEntrance pressure losses for the creeping flow of a power‐law fluid are calculated for an abrupt contraction of ratio 2, 4, 8 and ∞ for both the axisymmetric and planar cases using P2P1 and PP1 finite elements. Contrary to some earlier findings in the literature, the entrance pressure loss obtained by using the two different types of finite ...

POWER-LAW FLUIDS IN POROUS MEDIA
Chemical Engineering Communications, 1987An analysis is presented to describe the parallel flow of power-law fluids within a channel bounded by porous media. It is shown that there is an excess flow above the Darcy's law prediction for the porous medium region adjacent to the channel/ porous medium boundary. This also leads to a higher flow rate in the channel.

The Spreading of Power-Law Fluids
2001A thin-film formulation for the capillary-driven spreading of a power-law fluid is analysed to clarify, in particular, the relationship between macroscopic and microscopic contact angles and the dynamics of spreading in the completely-wetting case. The Newtonian fluid emerges as a critical case within the one-parameter family of evolution equations ...

Blade coating of a power-law fluid
Physics of Fluids, 1999In this paper we re-examine the problem of applying a thin layer of a power-law fluid to a solid substrate by means of a simple blade coater. Specifically we use lubrication theory to examine steady plane flow of a power-law fluid in the narrow nonuniform channel formed between a fixed blade of prescribed shape and a plane substrate moving parallel to ...

The drag on a sphere in a power-law fluid
Journal of Non-Newtonian Fluid Mechanics, 1985Using a finite-element program, the drag on an unbounded fluid in an (inelastic) power-law fluid is estimated. Comparison with upper and lower bounds, and with experimental data is given. Some remarks on wall effects are also made, and it is shown that wall effects are negligible for \(n\leq 0.5\).
