Hydrodynamics and Metzner-Otto correlation in stirred vessels for yield stress fluids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This paper investigates the hydrodynamics and power consumption in laminar stirred vessel flowusing numerical computation. The Metzner–Otto correlation was established for mixing in power-law fluids.

Magnetohydrodynamic free convection of non-Newtonian power-law fluids over a uniformly heated horizontal plate

open access: yesThermal Science, 2020
The MHD free convection flow of non-Newtonian power-law fluids over a horizontal plate subjected to a constant heat flux is studied. The results are presented for various values of the three influential parameters, i. e. the generalized Hart?mann number,

A Note on the Drag Coefficient of Steady Flow of Non-Newtonian, Power-Law Fluids across Unbounded Two-Dimensional Bodies at Low Reynolds Numbers

open access: yesFluids, 2017
The flow of a non-Newtonian, power-law fluid, directed normally to long, two-dimensional horizontal bodies, is considered in the present note. It is found that for low Reynolds numbers ( Re ≤ 0.1 ) and a low power-law index (shear-thinning fluids ...

Corner Flow of Power Law Fluids [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Rheology, 1989
A local analysis of the flow of power law fluids near corners is performed. The equation for the stream function is shown to allow separated solutions in plane polar coordinates. The radial behavior is shown to be algebraic and results are given for the exponent for different values of corner angle and power law exponent.

Viscoelastic capillary flow: the case of whole blood

open access: yesAIMS Biophysics, 2016
The dynamics of spontaneous capillary flow of Newtonian fluids is well-known and can be predicted by the Lucas-Washburn-Rideal (LWR) law. However a wide variety of viscoelastic fluids such as alginate, xanthan and blood, does not exhibit the same ...

Murray's law revisited: Qu\'emada's fluid model and fractal trees [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In 1926, Murray proposed the first law for the optimal design of blood vessels. He minimized the power dissipation arising from the trade-off between fluid circulation and blood maintenance.

Wall effects on the transportation of a cylindrical particle in power-law fluids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The present work deals with the numerical calculation of the Stokes-type drag undergone by a cylindrical particle perpendicularly to its axis in a power-law fluid.

Revisiting plane Couette-Poiseuille flows of a piezo-viscous fluid [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We re-examine fully developed isothermal unidirectional plane Couette-Poiseuille flows of an incompressible fluid whose viscosity depends linearly on the pressure as previously considered in Hron et al 2001.

Cosmologies with Energy Exchange [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We provide a simple mathematical description of the exchange of energy between two fluids in an expanding Friedmann universe with zero spatial curvature.
