Benefits from power and heat cogeneration
A large fraction of heat production from power sources is wasted in the environment, despite its numerous potential energy uses, for example, district heating, seawater desalination, or hydrogen production. In this paper, we use the MIXOPTIM methodology to evaluate performance indicators of mixes of electric power sources with and without cogeneration ...

We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Heat Transfer Phenomena of Power-Law Fluids in Double-Pass Heat Exchangers with Isoflux Conditions
A new design of conjugated heat transfer in double-pass parallel-plate laminar countercurrent operations of power law fluids under wall isoflux was investigated experimentally and theoretically. The analytical solutions were obtained with a superposition

Socio-cultural reflections on heat in Australia with implications for health and climate change adaptation [PDF]
Background : Australia has a hot climate with maximum summer temperatures in its major cities frequently exceeding 35°C. Although ‘heat waves’ are an annual occurrence, the associated heat-related deaths among vulnerable groups, such

EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

Techno-economic analysis of a sCO2 power plant for waste heat recovery in steel industry
Industrial facilities release a large amount of heat as a by-product of their processes. To improve environmental performance and increase process profitability, a portion of the waste heat can be recovered and employed for power generation by recovery ...
